And it was one I started and have been working on for two weeks -- it's now 90% finished. If I'd had something more than soft drinks I would have been so frustrated and angry that I'd have had to start over. Here's the reason: There are two posts in the middle of the "family room" in the basement. This is a nice room (now that we've had a bunch of work done on it). These two posts had "additions" made to them and electrical outlets and switches built into the additions -- not by an electrician or a carpenter, but by one of the previous homeowners. The paneling the room (also homeowner-installed) has the stripes run vertically, as if made from vertically-placed boards. But not these posts -- they were covered with scraps and the lines ran horizontally. It looked awful, but before we moved in we had the electrical work redone (professionally, so the house wouldn't burn down) and some of this post-paneling had to be ripped off. So we had a situation in which the posts were electrically safe, but looked like a disaster area. So I elected to re-cover them with white wallboard. I won't bother you with the problems, but I will say that the store cut some of the paneling too short and others too long -- and that's just one example. In true Jaeger fashion I have been able to solve the problems and, apart from the necessary touch-up work, the posts actually look pretty good. And that's how I spent my birthday (and the previous weekend) -- cussing and drinking soft drinks so that I didn't start REALLY losing my temper. I did find out that the only way to turn off the electrical outlets down there is to pull the Mains switch and cut off all the electricity in the house...this, too, will be fixed but not by me! Electrocution ain't my thing, ya know? |
