Does anybody remember a birthday song from the late 60's or early 70's that was on an album by perhaps Sesame Street or Captain Kangaroo w/lyrics like this.."your one year older, almost grown up now" & "So, have a happy birthday, in each & every way, and may your birthday wishes all come true...Wer'e glad that it's your birthday and we would just like to say....a very happy birthday to you".. or maybe this lyric.."there's no other day exactly like a birthday"...My kid sister loved this song & we can't remember the artist or name of the song. Subject: RE: Songs from Kids Shows, that you remember From: GUEST,Patsy Date: 11 Nov 10 - 08:15 AM White horses On my horses let me ride away, To a world that seems so far away, Let me run, to the sun. To a world my heart can understand, It's a gentle warm and wonderland, Far away, stars away, Where the clouds are made of candyfloss and the days are long, When the the stars are gone we'll race to meet the dawn, (Dont remember this line) Of a sad and very lonely day that's when I softly sigh, On my horses snowy, white horses let me ride away. Roughly that is what I remember, I would be grateful to have the right lyrics for that song. The singer also did 'Rupert the Bear'. |

Subject: RE: Songs from Kids Shows, that you remember From: GUEST,Kat Date: 16 Nov 10 - 12:06 AM "happy birthday happy happy birthday this is your day to have a lot of fun" This is part of the birthday song sung by Heck Harper on his afternoon kid show - was it Cartoon Corral? - which was out of Portland, OR in the 60's. The theme song was, "Come a-runnin', bring your pal, To the (new?big?) Cartoon Corral. Clutch Cargo, Dick Tracy and Mister Magoo, Felix and Popeye will be along, too...." That's all I got; the last couple of lines or so are pretty fuzzy. The birthday song went: "Happy birthday, happy, Happy birthday, This is your day to (or 'so') have a lot of fun. Happy birthday, happy, Happy birthday, This is your day, until the night is done. Blow out the candles on your cake and make a wish, And we'll serve everybody's favorite dish (Happy birthday, happy) Happy birthday, happy, Happy birthday, This is your day, so have a lot of fun" |

Subject: RE: Songs from Kids Shows, that you remember From: GUEST,Pattycakes55 Date: 07 Feb 11 - 07:49 PM In the Philadelphia area when I was a kid there was a show called the Gene London show. For part of it Gene would tell a story while drawing it on a big pad of paper. He'd introduce the segment by singing: Let's pretend that it's story time and I'll tell a tale to you, I'll tell you a tale of make believe, and all your dreams will come true. And when the story's over, and when we've reached the end, We'll live happily ever after -- where? In the land of "Let's Pretend." I ate it up! |

Being a romantically inclined teen at the time, that really chimed in with my world view. Sad, innit.... |
Subject: RE: Songs from Kids Shows, that you remember From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 21 Apr 14 - 05:20 AM I used to adore the song 'A Four-Legged Friend' sung by Roy Rogers. I don't think it was from any children's programme though. It was often on Uncle Mac's Children's Favourites on radio. |
Subject: RE: Songs from Kids Shows, that you remember From: GUEST,eldergirl Date: 21 Apr 14 - 07:34 PM Cheers Eliza! These days if I think of A Four-Legged Friend I find it hard to stop, like spelling 'banana'. A one-two-three-four-five-six-seven legged.. Oh no, that's not right, is it? Too silly. Uncle Mac used to play some gems. I only wish he'd never included Sparky's Magic Piano. Yeccchhh! |
Subject: RE: Songs from Kids Shows, that you remember From: GUEST,James Phillips Date: 24 Mar 21 - 02:46 PM If it's songs from kid's TV shows you're after then look no further than the early 70's BBC show "Bagpuss," the music for which was folky and beautiful and written and performed by the great John Faulkner (Dolores Keane's ex) and the great Sandra Kerr: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhSp1I0HhFFd_rz45HZEDL4gbOf4QErO9 The Bony King of Nowhere He sat upon his throne He didn't much like sitting there Because his throne was ... His throne was made of stone His throne was made of marble white It's feet were made of gold It was a royal throne alright But oh dear it was ... It was extremely cold That skinny king of nowhere Was feeling very chilly He said to go on sitting there Was really very ... And also very chilly He jumped on the tea table And said please will you find A seat thats soft and suitable To warm a king's be-... Just see what you can find They fetched him up a hammock But they couldnt keep it still They put him on a rocking horse The rocking made him ... It made him very ill They sat him on a wool sack But that rubbed up his knees They rolled him on a feather bed But that just made him... It simply made him sneeze That poor old king of nowhere Just sat there looking sad He said if you could help me I'd be very very... Particularly glad Two mice came up from somewhere Behind their royal chum They said dear king here is a thing To warm the royal ... And stop you feeling numb The thing it was a cushion bright Of silk and gold brocade So square and soft and small and light And very neatly... Of silk and gold brocade Now the happy king of nowhere Is smiling on his throne His smile is rosy, his seat is cozy Although his throne is stone, is stone The mice have made it nice, oh nice He is a happy king |
Subject: RE: Songs from Kids Shows, that you remember From: GUEST,henryp Date: 24 Mar 21 - 06:34 PM Billy Bean built a machine to see what it could do. He made it out of sticks and stones, and nuts and bolts and glue. The motor sang Chuffaty Bang, Rattata Rattatarator, And all of a sudden a picture appeared on the funny old cartoonerator Billy Bean built a machine to see what it would do, It did the funniest things he'd seen, So he called it his funny machine, machine, Billy Bean and his funny machine. Billy Bean first aired in July 1953. If Billy wanted the machine to make something he would draw it on the screen. The machine then drew pictures to indicate what raw materials were required. When these were placed in the mixerator, levers pulled and buttons pressed the machine got to work with suitable mechanical sound effects. Needless to say there were 'bugs' and the possibility of misunderstanding the graphical communication gave rise to considerable amusement. Some of the things the machine made were very surprising. Yoo-Hoo, the stupid cuckoo bird, laid an egg at intervals, never more than one per programme, which rolled down a series of zig-zag channels on the machine. |
Subject: RE: Songs from Kids Shows, that you remember From: GUEST,Beachcomber Date: 25 Mar 21 - 07:46 AM Remembering watching the ELEPHANT SHOW when my kids were little. There was a fine Bluegrass Quartet who introduced the show, two ladies and two gentlemen, who sang children's folk songs mostly with guitar and banjo. Did they ever have an identity as a Main stream folk band or were they involved with other groups ? |
Subject: RE: Songs from Kids Shows, that you remember From: Cool Beans Date: 25 Mar 21 - 10:46 AM The Elephant Show was the vehicle for Canadian folk trio Sharon, Lois and Bram. There was a fourth person on the show, Eric Nagler, who sang and played guitar and banjo and built home-made instruments, but I never saw/heard all four them perform at once. My kids loved them. We saw them in concert many times; i.e., we saw concerts by Sharon, Lois and Bram and we saw concerts by Eric Nagler. They toured separately, as I recall. |
