Yesterday and the day before were devoted to getting broadband on my computer. Boys and girls, it has been a savage thrash.

In the process, I accidentally got a Yahoo Toolbar and a Google toolbar on my screen. I don't want them. Can anybody tell me how to make them go away? They are taking up precious space on my small monitor.

(I like a small monitor because my eyes are so bad that much of a big one is out of focus.)

It would help if you told people what browser/s you use.

Go to the VIEW menu in Internet Explorer or Firefox, and drop down to Toolbars and you can check any you want to see. That damned Yahoo toolbar keeps installing itself, and Earthlink also has one. I get rid of them. I do use the Google toolbar all of the time. You might want to look at what it offers before deselecting it.

SRS

I'm using IE 6 now.

Thanks, susan. That got rid of one of them. The google bar is still there, however. Further research is needed.

By the way, did you know that if you need to get Norton Antivirus off you computer, then you have to have a priest come and do an exorcism? It's true.

That last message in this thread appears to be smut spam (I sure as hell am not opening that link) and the HELP menu isn't working. I'll come back to it later and report it if a mudelf doesn't find it.

Stilly, the best way to handle that sort of thing and e-mail Joe to get rid of the msg out of the thread.

I usually report it in the help threads, but thought this looked like one that might trip up someone, so reported it at the site instead of the help page. Browser beware if someone has pointed it out.

Yesterday a friend who has worked in customer service came over and helped me fine-tune the puter. She told me to find a largish, blank area in the toolbars and right click. Then a menu appears and you can uncheck various toolbars.

I had asked a software specialist (third-level up) about that, and he didn't know it.

SRS, you are right that the Yahoo toolbar keeps coming back. Now at least I can zap it, if only temporarily.

I've got the Google toolbar installed and I love it. Mainly I love the fact that you can drag and drop any phrase (such as a song title or performer's name) from anywhere to the search box, and it automatically searches. Then, too, if you've got the "highlight" feature turned on, it highlights the word or phrase you were searching for in whatever page you're looking at.

If you do a lot of searching, as I do, the Google toolbar is wonderfully useful.

On IE go to start, settings, control panel, add or remove programs. Scroll through the programs until you find google toolbar or yahoo tool bar. Select the program, click remove, reboot the computer.
