Subject: Wickham Festival From: GUEST,Everyman Date: 18 Feb 07 - 03:29 PM Im planning on going to this festival in Hampshire for the first time this year. Their website www.wickhamfestival.co.uk says they've got Eddi Reader, Eliza Carthy, Ashley Hutchings, Kathryn Tickell, The Spooky Mens Chorale, Luka Bloom, Shooglenifty, Les Barker and Yves Lambert (La Bottine Souriante) among many others plus some 'big name' headlines including Jethro Tull. Wonder if any other Mudcatters are going to Wickham or know anything about it? |
Subject: RE: Wickham Festival From: GUEST,Sandra Ennis Date: 18 Feb 07 - 03:36 PM We went last year which I think was their 1st festival in Wickham. It was a very enjoyable and very friendly festival on the outskirts of Wickham village. We're planning to go again in August for the whole weekend before travelling onto Sidmouth for the rest of the week there. I agree with Jim that the Wickham line-up looks very strong and it's nice to see traditional Scottish singer Mick West making a rare trip to the south of England. Quite apart from the music and the dance displays in Wickham Square we recommend you try the cream teas in Clementine's tea rooms at the top of the Square. |
Subject: RE: Wickham Festival From: GUEST,Everyman Date: 18 Feb 07 - 05:03 PM Cream teas eh? It's often nice to 'escape' the music at a festival for a while and the idea of a proper English tearoom as an alternative to polystyrene cups on a festival site sounds tempting. Maybe we should have a Mudcatters gathering in the teashop? Jim |

Subject: RE: Wickham Festival From: GUEST,Valmai Goodyear Date: 19 Feb 07 - 03:50 AM Spare Parts (Suzanne Higgins, Bryan Creer and me) are looking forward to doing Wickham for the first time. We'll be running concertina part-playing workshops and/or English tunes practice sessions - the sort of thing we do at Chippenham and Tenterden. Valmai (Lewes) |
Subject: RE: Wickham Festival From: MairSea Date: 19 Feb 07 - 05:19 AM HAve always thought that the tearoom in Wickham (Clementine's in Italiano) would make a beautiful room for a small folk club. Food and drinks very good and reasonably priced but gets VERY busy on a daily basis. I don't think we'll make it this year again as it clashes with something deep in my (hidden) memory!!! HAve a great time to all who are going - will be VERY sorry to miss Mick West. Have a great festival Mick if you look in on this thread. Ann XOX |
