From: GUEST,Here's the words to the variant of The Rythe

THE RHYTHM OF LIFE

VERSE 1: When I started down the street last Sunday
Feeling mighty low and kinda mean
Suddenly a voice said go forth neighbor
Spread the picture on a wider screen
And the voice said neighbor there's a million reasons
Why you should be glad in all four seasons
Hit the road neighbor leave your worries and strife
Spread the religion of the rhythm of life

CHORUS: For the rhythm of life is a powerful beat
Puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet
Rhythm on the inside rhythm in the street
And the rhythm of life is a powerful beat
Chorus special (sung one line for each line in chorus)
To feel the rhythm of life
To feel the powerful beat
To feel the tingle in your fingers
To feel the tingle in your feet

VERSE 2: Go and spread the gospel in Milwaukee
Take a walkie-talkie to Rocky Ridge
All the way to Canton then to Scranton
Eve tell it under the Manhattan bridge

BRIDGE (FAST): You will make a new sensation
Have a growing congregation
Build a glowing operation
Here below
Like a pied piper blowing
Lead and keep the music flowing
Keep the rhythm go, go, going
Go, go, go

BRIDGE SPECIAL (HALF SPEED) 1 LINE FOR EVERY 2 LINES OF BRIDGE
You will make a new sensation
Have a growing congregation
Build a glowing operation
Here below go, go

(BRIDGE IS REPEATED AGAIN FOR SECOND PART OF BRIDGE SPECIAL)
Like a pied piper blowing
Lead and keep the music flowing
Keep the rhythm go, go, going
Go, go, go, go, go (LAST THREE GOS ARE SUNG TOGETHER)

CHORUS SPECIAL (LAST TIME)
For the rhythm of life is a powerful beat
To feel the rhythm of life
Puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet
To feel the powerful beat
Rhythm on the inside rhythm in the street
To feel the tingle in your fingers
And the rhythm of life is a powerful beat
To feel the tingle in your

ENDING (ALL TOGETHER)
Life...life...
Neighbor you've got the
...Rhythm...rhythm
...Rhythm of life!

I sang this version in the 6th grade. If anyone has any comments feel free to send them to angelage1@yahoo.com

This
is the version our choir did(at least the cover looks like the same one) which is the words posted by Guest above, plus all the other ones Guest did not remember.
Being in Canada we changed the place names to Canadian content.
"Go and spread the Gospel in Vancouver, take a Walky -Talky to Calgary, all the way to Kingston then to Moncton, even shout it loudly from sea to sea" it then goes on to a Dooby Dooby bit, with different parts doing different Doobies. A local choral group may have a copy you could borrow, I know our choir rents out music to other choral groups.

The version that 'GUEST' posted is the same version I learned almost twenty years ago, when I was singing with the Alaska Children's Choir up in Anchorage, AK. Before stumbling across this page, I had no idea that what I learned weren't the original lyrics, or that they were originally from Sweet Charity. Thanks much for this!

If I'm correct, this song was done by Sammy Davis, Jr. in the movie version of Sweet Charity, playing a hip clergyman holding services in a parking garage. Everyone in the congregation was wearing bell bottom pants. Interesting scene, but it sure made the film look dated.

Emma,

Welcome to Mudcat.

It works better on this forum if you start a new thread with the song lyrics you are looking for in the title, e.g.

Lyr Req: pa pa rong

(Note: when you create a new thread choose "Lyr Req" from the drop down menu on the left and just type the song title in the right hand field.

Also, it helps a lot if you can give us some more info on the song, e.g. who sang it, when/where you heard it, style of music, any of the lyrics you do know, etc

Helen

Lyrics copied from http://www.stlyrics.com/lyrics/sweetcharity/rhythmoflife.htm

RHYTHM OF LIFE
(Cy Coleman, Dorothy Fields, from "Sweet Charity")

Daddy started out in San Francisco,
Tootin' on his trumpet loud and mean.
Suddenly a voice said, "Go forth, Daddy.
Spread the picture on a wider screen."

And the voice said, "Brother, there's a million pigeons
Ready to be hooked on new religions.
Hit the road, Daddy. Leave your common-law wife.
Spread the religion of the rhythm of life."

And the rhythm of life is a powerful beat,
Puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet,
Rhythm in your bedroom, rhythm in the street,
Yes, the rhythm of life is a powerful beat.

To feel the rhythm of life,
To feel the powerful beat,
To feel the tingle in your fingers,
To feel the tingle in your feet.

Daddy spread the gospel in Milwaukee,
Took his walkie-talkie to Rocky Ridge,
Blew his way to Canton, then to Scranton,
Till he landed under the Manhattan Bridge.

Daddy was the new sensation, got himself a congregation,
Built up quite an operation down below.
With the pie-eyed piper blowing, while the muscatel was flowing,
All the cats were go, go, going down below.

Daddy was the new sensation, got himself a congregation,
Built up quite an operation down below.
With the pie-eyed piper blowing, while the muscatel was flowing,
All the cats were go, go, going down below.

Flip your wings and fly to Daddy,
Flip your wings and fly to Daddy,
Flip your wings and fly to Daddy,
Fly, fly, fly to Daddy.

Take a dive and swim to Daddy,
Take a dive and swim to Daddy,
Take a dive and swim to Daddy,
Swim, swim, swim to Daddy.

Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy,
Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy,
Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy,
Crawl, crawl, crawl to Daddy.

And the rhythm of life is a powerful beat,
Puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet,
Rhythm in your bedroom, rhythm in the street,
Yes, the rhythm of life is a powerful beat.

To feel the rhythm of life,
To feel the powerful beat,
To feel the tingle in your fingers,
To feel the tingle in your feet.

To feel the rhythm of life,
To feel the powerful beat,
To feel the tingle in your fingers,
To feel the tingle in your feet.

Flip your wings and fly to Daddy,
Take a dive and swim to Daddy,
Hit the floor and crawl to Daddy,
Daddy we got the rhythm of life,
Of life, of life, of life.
Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
Man!

I remember the chorus:

"For the rhythm of life is a powerful beat
Puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet
Rhythm on the inside, rhythm on the street
and the rhythm of life has a powerful beat!"

Sang it in high school ... will try to dredge up the rest.

Sounds like a variant on "The Rhythm of Life" from the Broadway musical "Sweet Charity."

We are looking for the words to the song The Rhythm of Life. We aren't sure if that is the correct name for the song.

It goes something like this...
I was walking down the street last Sunday
feeling mighty low and kinda mean.
Suddenly a voice said go forth neighbor
spread the picture on a wider screen...
