Subject: Lyr Req: Wishing you a good road
From: GUEST,Owlkat
Date: 24 Feb 07 - 04:49 PM

Please Please Pleeeeeeeeeease!!!!!!!!
There is a program on NPR, and I swear it does exist because I listen to it every saturday morning but I'm soooo busy waking up and making food working on my university degrees that I always forget the song writer and it's driving me barking mad because I want to learn it so bad.
The chorus goes,"Good road, good road, wishing you a good road..." by a woman singer songwriter guitar player and it was written in 1989 and I'm never awake enough to listen close enough and according to NPR this program Inland Folk does not exist which is weird because I listen every saturday morning but do I listen closely enough to find out? Nooooooo.
Heeeeeeeeeeelp me! Please Please Please.
Thanks
Owl.

Here's the full first line from the chorus
Good roads, good roads, wishing you a good road. May you find your comfort in friends along the way. [1989].
I'm done.
Thank you in advance.

It sounds like Anne Hills..I would bet about $2 on her being the author, and perhaps even having a CD by that name. mg

Show comes out of Washington State University in Pullman. My wife did her last two degrees there and loves the show (as do I).
Finishes with "Good Roads" every time. Great song.
I'll bet if you click on the show, which probably just ended you'll find it on the credits or playlist. Dan somebody... is his name.
90.1 FM Oh, his name will come to me as soon as I hit "send".

Dear Jim,
You are officially my hero. You've got a dinner owed, should you ever be in Victoria, BC.
Thank you.
Marti.

I'm in the Highlands and have a love for lamb. I caught a good part of the show today. Was running my son out to Metchosin so I listened in and remembered your thread. I was right on my first guess, by the way, it's 90.1fm in Victoria. (CBC is 90.5fm so it's an easy switch)
He featured a singer today "Anias Mitchell" whom I found on Whole Wheat Radio a couple of nights ago. She rocks.
Good Roads
Jim

Hi, James - it's on Heidi Muller's Matters of the Heart (click) CD, available at her Website - but apparently no longer available through retailers. It's a good album.

"Inland Folk" still is on the air via Northwest Public Radio, Dan still hosts the show, and Heidi Muller's "Good Road" continues to be its opening theme song. Heidi moved back to the Northwest from West Virginia a few years ago and continues to perform, along with Bob Webb, mostly in small, intimate venues. It's worthwhile to travel a long distance to hear Heidi and Bob's music live.

I just discovered this thread. Thanks to everyone who's been interested in the song. I'm the writer and performer, and lucky for me, Dan Maher chose "Good Road" as the theme song for the Inland Folk radio show back in 1989. The show is very much alive on Northwest Public Radio, airing every Saturday from 11-2 in Washington State, with archived shows available to listen to at nwpr.org. If anyone would like the CD that this is on, Matters of the Heart, I still have some available at my website at heidimuller.com. Here are the lyrics:

Good Road

It's a calling, a strange compulsion
That makes us leave our homes taking music on the road
We can't deny it, though we sometimes try it
It always haunts us if we hesitate to go

Chorus:
Good road, good road, I'm wishing you a good road
May your wheels always turn and may the sun light up your day
Good road, good road, I'm wishing you a good road
May you find your comfort in friends along the way

Kristina's in Boston, she's from California
Tim's in California, he's from out New Mexico way
And I'm in Tucson, I drove down from Seattle
When the gig is over, I'll be off to Santa Fe (chorus)

Motel 6, Super 8, rest stops on the interstate
A futon at Linnaea's and camping on the coast
Racking up those miles alone, keep in touch by telephone
It's not an easy life but it's the one we love the most (chorus)

Another highway, a new direction
Another place to sing at the end of the broken line
Another entrance, another exit
And endless memories of the places left behind (chorus)

I'm not sure if this will reach anyone who had written in about the song - but I hope this is helpful to anyone who may still do a search on it. Feel free to email me anytime through my website.

Heidi Muller
