Subject: Music of the Upper South New CD's From: GUEST,Hootenanny Date: 25 Feb 07 - 07:55 AM For those interested in the music of Kentucky and close by, can I bring to your attention two double albums that have just been released of field recordings made by Mark Wilson much of whose previous work is available on Rounder. Full details and notes and a review are available at www.mustrad.org.uk If you are serious about music and not besotted by who is the best rocker, what is your favourite tune and whoever's birthday it is today then I suggest you take a look. Price, presentation material and booklets are excellent.Holcomb, Fraley, Kazee, Workman, Garland, Gunning etc. just a few performer names to start. I should point out that this is not a plug, I have no connection with any of the people involved, just a love of the music. |

Subject: RE: Music of the Upper South New CD's From: Janie Date: 25 Feb 07 - 10:06 PM Thanks so much, Hoot. This looks like a real gem of a collection. I'm particularly excited to see that most of the selections were recorded during the early to mid seventies. Next door, in West Virginia, that was a prime time for the revival of the traditional music of the region, and we were learning it at the the feet of people like J.P. Fraley, Whirley Gardner, Nimrod Workman, the Hammonds family, Glen Smith, etc. Janie |
