I think Harry Enfield had a collection of sketches along these lines:

"If that Frank Sinatra came to our pub sing-a-long we would just tell him to sod off, we'd say look Frank, sod off!"

After all what did Paul ever do?

Nothing!

Well he did write Homeward Bound....

Yes but apart from that...

And America...

Yes but apart from that...

Sound fo Silence, Mrs Robinson

Yes but apart from that...

Gracelands....

Sorry that was Monty Python?

How many of us kicked ourselves for not seeing him in '64, I know I did.

He played Grimsby twice - the second time he stayed with me and my mate Bill Johnston. I still have the signed copy of "The Paul Simon Song Book" - "To Bill and Rog, thank you for the bed, the meal and the conversation. Paul Simon"

Well, if he should ever come to our club asking ridiculous amounts to do a floor spot I'd send the cheeky little bugger packing :-)

Hee hee hee - Packie Byrne told me he remembered walking somewhere in London with the then-unknown Paul, who had to stop for a moment to readjust the piece of cardboard that was serving as his shoe-lining.

This is remarkable.

Every organiser I ever met from the Sixties turned him down as too expensive.

My old mate Frank Singleton told me Paul Simon played Grimsby FOlk Club at (I think) The Queens pub in Cleethorpes.

I saw him on that tour, when he appeared at the Half Moon club, in Yeovil. It was all a bit avant garde really----he used "the F word" , for example, which in those days was quite shocking !!! But he was pointing out that the first batch of "Sound of Silence" EP records had to be withdrawn, because nobody noticed that, written on the subway wall in front of which Simon & Garfunkel were photographed, was the graffito " Fuck You " . That was his story, anyway !! I never cared for him much,personally----I find him too short to be taken seriously !

what a great couple Ted and Ivy Poole running the swindon folk club in1960,and still running it.PAUL SIMON should ring them up for a gig now, he could afford to do it ,and wouldnt it be a nice thankyou for all the Pooles work.
on the subject of Paul Simon, he asked to do a floor spot at Dave and Ruth Coopers[The Rising Sun folk club] in Catford and was turned down,.
