Krysia Kocjian-Haber, a Scottish singer, composer and poet, died on February 21, 2007 in Portland, OR. Probably best known for her early work with the Al Stewart band (of "Year of the Cat" fame, where she performed as Krysia Kristianne), she had, in the last decade and a half, returned to her folk roots. Krysia's voice was well known in the Celtic music community in Los Angeles, where she performed regularly before moving to Portland in 2000. She was a magnificent singer and poet who had the "cumha" and brought a soulful and mystical quality to her singing as well as to her songwriting. She is survived by her husband, Rob Haber, and a multitude of grieving friends, family and fans. She will be sorely missed.   A Los Angeles memorial service is planned for Saturday, March 10, 2007. "Cumha" means "lament" and no more than that. Weird thing to say. Do you mean "cumhachd"?

Is there an obit or sound sample somewhere? Not somebody I was familiar with, but she did play with a few well-known Scottish musicians once.

I saw her fronting her own band in London in 1977, opening for the Gordon Giltrap Band; and, three days later opening for Five Hand Reel (at the Marquee Club). She was a good singer then. I had just gotten a CD re-issue of Al Stewart's "Past, Present & Future" amd he was also still speaking highly of her. Sorry to hear that she's passed on.

I remember her playing with Tom Hoy and Robin Thyne as the Natural Acustic Band. They nade two albums for RCA in 1972, and Krysia made a solo album, again for RCA, called Krysia in 1974. I saw them at some of the Folk Clubs around Glasgow in the early 70s. I remember Krysia playing one gig with her leg in plaster from toe to thigh.

I was very sorry to hear of Krysia's untimely death. I have very fond memories of Krysia, having walked home with her from my friend Jim's on many a night in the late Sixties. Krysia in those days was such a gentle elfin girl, kind and thoughtful. But of course always with that amazing voice. I grew up on the same street as Tom Hoy so when he, Robin Thyne and Krysia formed the Natural Accoustic Band I naturally followed their progress with much interest, going down to visit them in England and travelling to a few gigs with them. When Krysia left for America we all felt her loss keenly. It's not often in this world you meet such gentle souls... We'll all miss you Krysia. Thank you for all you brought us sweet girl...

I amn so sorry to hear of Krysia's untimely death. I remember her with great affection as an integral member of Al Stewart's band for many years, and have a treasured copy of the Shot in the Dark album, where her voice really shone through.

She will be misse, but her legacy lives on.

I loved her voice on Roads To Moscow, and was pleased when she showed up on 24 Carrots (or was it Parrots?). I, to have a copy of the Shot In The Dark album, which I transferred to a cd. She really did shine on that recording. I, too will miss her.

I met Kryshia through my good friends Bill and Bea MENGER back in the late 1970s. We and a group of other friends would visit them up in Corral Canyon, up above Malibu, up in that mountain area. Kryshia was just as folks have described her, a gentle and loving person. I lost contact with her sometime in the late 1980s. I just recently looked up her name on the internet and, sadly, I learned of her death. Kryshia, we miss you, and we will likely never meet yor like again for some time to come. We might have shared some Gaelic language, and if so then, in Gaelic...Go neiri an bothar leat, mo chara!

I just saw Al Stewarts Musik Laden video for the first time and I was intrigued by Krysia's beautiful voice in perfect harmony with Al's. When searching for her my first find was of her obituary. What a loss for us ... She is now singing with the angels...
