Subject: RE: BS: Think I need some of those Mudcat hugs! From: Flash Company Date: 15 Dec 07 - 11:24 AM Christmas update Saw Petrina today and she is looking great, although currently worried about her Mum, in hospital at 92 having had problems with fitting a pacemaker. Looks like she won't be home for Christmas, though as S & I said it is possibly no bad thing! P sends her love to all, as do Sheila & I Merry Christmas (or Whatever!) Brian Q |

Subject: RE: BS: Think I need some of those Mudcat hugs! From: katlaughing Date: 08 Jul 07 - 10:14 AM Wonderful to hear! (Hazel, sorry I missed your request re' coloured text. Just put in < font color= gold > without any of the spaces and it should work, although it is better to use the number for the color rather than the name, which I don't have handy at the moment.:-) When you have typed your text, be sure to enter < /font > also without the spaces to turn that feature off.) Sorry for the drift. |

Subject: RE: BS: Think I need some of those Mudcat hugs! From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 15 Apr 07 - 10:13 AM great news, now for a good, long, perfect healing of incisions etc. No rushing it! So watch those fruit juices, they're dangerous! sandra |
Subject: RE: BS: Think I need some of those Mudcat hugs! From: Flash Company Date: 15 Apr 07 - 09:51 AM We are all soooo relieved to be on the right side of this problem. Once again, Petrina sends her thanks for all the support. there were times when she really felt she needed it! A little surreal humour, to prove that all in NHS uk is not completely black. P reports that when she had had her pre-med and was lying feeling woozy waiting to go down to the theatre, these two guys came in and said 'Mrs Crosby, permit us to introduce ourselves, I am your surgeon and this is your aneasthetist. We want to assure you that you will have the best possible care!' As she said, the blue overalls should have been a give away, but she was off with the fairies anyway, so, a surgeon on trolley duty? Money is tight in the NHS! Then he said ' We have never actually done this operation before, but we've read all the text books this morning and have a fairly good idea of how it should go. At this point the penny dropped, and, as she says' I thought, what the hell, if you are going to die, you might as well die laughing.' Now you see why we love her! Brian Q |

Subject: RE: BS: Think I need some of those Mudcat hugs! From: Flash Company Date: 14 Apr 07 - 06:08 AM Petrina rang last evening about 6.45 Uk time. Her surgeon greeted her with the words 'I have nothing but good news for you' The biopsy on the removed organs at Christies had proved that the tumour had not spread outside the womb, and no further treatment will be necessary. We are all so relieved and thankful that it is over. It is just two months since the first diagnosis. S & I have, in 30 years of marriage lost six friends to cancer. but it seems that, for once, with your help, we have slain the Jabberwock! Subject: RE: BS: Think I need some of those Mudcat hugs! From: jacqui.c Date: 08 Apr 07 - 07:35 AM Brian - I remember quite clearly the suspense of waiting to see the oncologist after they removed my cancerous womb. There had been a lot of argument between my son and my daughter as to who I should stay with if I need radiotherapy to remove all traces of the cancer - both felt that they had the best hospital close by to do the job. My daughter came with me to the oncology appointment and, when the specialist told us that the cancer had only got part way across the womb and I wouldn't need any further treatment, my daughter just broke down and cried. That started me off and, when a nurse came into the room and saw us the oncologist had to explain that they were tears of happiness. that cancer showed me how many good friends I had and brought home to me how much my children loved me. I hope that Petrina's diagnosis is all clear on Friday. |
Subject: RE: BS: Think I need some of those Mudcat hugs! From: Flash Company Date: 08 Apr 07 - 06:04 AM Saw Petrina for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon. She is in good form and managing to get out for a short walk every day whilst we are having this pleasant spell of spring weather. John confides that they are still very concerned about the check up on Friday, and he is expecting Thursday to be a pretty awful day. However, she looks fine, as beautiful as ever, and still retains her sense of humour. This one is worth sharing. As we were about to leave I said 'And remember, no Morris Dancing for at least six weeks!' She then told us the tale of her brother in law, Mike, who somehow last year managed to have a Maypole fall on him. As she said, it sounds funny, but he cracked two ribs so he wasn't laughing much at the time. However, this being too good to waste, they e-mailed him as The Society for the Prevention of Abuse to Maypoles (SPAM) advising him that they had been informed that he had attacked one of their installations by hitting it with his ribs in an aggressive manner. This year they are writing to him as SPAM, Committee for the Rehabilitation of Adult Perpetrators (CRAP) enclosing a stick with four loose bells and instructions on remedial therapy to remove aggressive behaviour towards Maypoles:- 1) Hold stick in right hand 2) Extend hand above head. 3) Shake stick in air. You will observe that this makes no sound and probably makes you feel quite silly. 4) As soon as you have overcome the feeling of being silly and mastered the technique of stick shaking, remove stick from above head, 5) Attach first bell to stick with ribbon provided 6) Repeat steps 1 to 4 7) Attach second bell 8) Repeat steps 1 to 4 9) Attach third bell 10) Repeat steps 1 to 4 11) Attach fourth bell 12) repeat steps 1 to 3. At this point you should feel fully in tune with the Maypole tradition and will have set aside all your aggressive tendencies. Alternatively you might feel inclined to go out and attack the nearest Maypole with an axe! I think this could run & run Brian Q |

Subject: RE: BS: Think I need some of those Mudcat hugs! From: Flash Company Date: 04 Apr 07 - 09:25 AM Spoke to Petrina on the 'phone yesterday. She came home on Friday last and has made her first excursion into the outside world (walked to the post box at the corner of the street). She says the pavements feel very hard at the moment, She is due to see her surgeon on Friday 13th April!!!!! for an update. She is very upbeat about the situation, and is currently expecting to be told that they got everything at once, and no further treatment will be necessary. John is currently doing all the housework! John is a big, bearded rugby player with hands like shovels! She sends her love to you all and says that it was really heartening to realise that there was so much support out there when she went in for the op. I figure we need one more push to get past Friday the 13th. I will be seeing her over the weekend, and hope to get her laughing like I usually do. She has the most low-down dirty laugh you could ever wish to hear. Thanks to you all Brian Q |

From: Flash Company Date: 02 Apr 07 - 11:15 AM Hi everyone, sorry I have not been in touch again, Internet tech problems!!*#*!## (or words to that effect) Op was carried out on Monday last, and appears to have been a total success (fingers crossed), S went to see her on Thursday and she was walking about, although in some discomfort. With a following wind she should now be back home. We will give them a ring tonight and hopefully see them later in the week. Subject: RE: BS: Think I need some of those Mudcat hugs! From: jacqui.c Date: 16 Mar 07 - 06:53 AM Flash I was diagnosed with cancer of the womb three years ago. They took me in for a total hysterectomy three days after diagnosis. Tests showed that the cancer had been contained within the womb and I didn't need any further treatment. It's most lilkely, for Petrina, that they will want to gop in the traditional way, via an incision into the abdomen, so that they can look around while they're removing the womb. That will mean a longer recovery and convalescent time but means that they can do a more thorough job of getting rid of any cancer that is there. Petrina will need to take it very easy for quite a while and, even after recovery, may need to take heed of the fact that there are large internal scars. I overexercised and have ended up with an incisional hernia as a result. Please send her lots of love and good wishes from me - I hope that all goes well. |
