Subject: RE: BS: Think I need some of those Mudcat hugs! From: Flash Company Date: 16 Mar 07 - 04:16 AM Positive news from Petrina yesterday, tests indicate that the cancer is contained in her Womb and has not spread to other parts. We know that the situation is still not good, but at least there appears to be a chance that they can get it all in one go. She goes in on the 25th with surgery planned for the 26th, so thankfully not now on her Birthday. She will go straight into a High Dependency Ward because of the lung problem. Thanks from all of us for the support and good wishes received. Brian Q |

I understand the "no fuss" feeling, but it can't hurt to know there are powerful thoughts at work on her behalf. Take care of yourselves. Don't be afraid to laugh, or cry. Both are helpful. Nancy |

Subject: RE: BS: Think I need some of those Mudcat hugs! From: Flash Company Date: 06 Mar 07 - 10:21 AM Hi Liz, that is terrible, we lost another dear friend to that one around the time when Dennis Potter had it and was appearing on TV with a whisky in one hand and a bottle of Morphine tabs in the other. S & I will be with you. All our love Brian Q |

Subject: RE: BS: Think I need some of those Mudcat hugs! From: Liz the Squeak Date: 06 Mar 07 - 06:03 AM Can I have a few for my in-laws please? Father in law is seriously ill in hospital, where he's been for 2 weeks now, mostly in a high dependency ward. He has pancreatitis and now he's having difficulty breathing (2 weeks on oxygen pipes will do that), so all sorts of scans and things are happening. His wife needs an extra special hug from wherever she can get it. LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Think I need some of those Mudcat hugs! From: Flash Company Date: 05 Mar 07 - 09:36 AM I knew I could rely on all you lovely people, it is difficult for me at the moment as she is in full 'I don't want any fuss' mode. Subject: RE: BS: Think I need some of those Mudcat hugs! From: Ella who is Sooze Date: 05 Mar 07 - 05:20 AM Have just lost my father to cancer... two primary cancers. He got over the one in June 06 - had it removed. Me and t'other half got married in the September last year, and by Christmas dad was ill again. He died a few weeks ago, this time small cell cancer of the lung. It's a hard time, and wouldn't wish a loved one with cancer on anyone. Traumatic for all involved, stay strong, stay together and cherish each day each moment. Take each day for what you have and most of all find some strength to remain ever positive. Cos sometimes there is a happy ending for some. My thoughts are with you. Ella who is Suze, (first day back looking at the mudcat). |

Subject: RE: BS: Think I need some of those Mudcat hugs! From: katlaughing Date: 05 Mar 07 - 12:30 AM For funny, a CD of Les Barker! Great suggestions, lennice. Voices and singing of friends and family would be much better than that of a stranger. I would think they'd have more impact. |
Subject: RE: BS: Think I need some of those Mudcat hugs! From: lennice Date: 04 Mar 07 - 11:48 PM I'm an idiot. forget the reference to the thread - i'll quit being lazy and list some, and maybe others will do the same. Too bad Susan Hill's songs aren't in the data base - she writes the most comforting songs I've ever heard. Some of Rita's choices: Come to the Bower [SP?}, Turning toward Morning (Bok), the one about friends in the kitchen and the trumpet vine(bok?), skye boat song, mockingbird Hill is amazingly comforting (at least with Rita singing it!), Rose of Allendale, Children of the Heavenly Father. Friendship songs are good. I don't know about your friend, but I think "forget your troubles come on get happy" songs are dreadful and depressing when you have something real to deal with, and I'd leave out funny songs, or make another one of just funny songs for when she's in the mood. I'm sure you can think of more! Help out, mudcatters? |
Subject: RE: BS: Think I need some of those Mudcat hugs! From: lennice Date: 04 Mar 07 - 10:56 PM hugs and light from Massachusetts. Where are you? I find it easier to visualize if I have some reference point. ck the thread about songs for funerals and HEALING. Forget the funeral part. There are great songs listed there that are comforting and uplifting. Sing them to yourself, sing them to your friend. That's what got me through a bad patch. Make a tape for her like Rita did for me, or ask Rita (ferrara) for her tape! (cd now?). Carly also made a tape for me with input from a bunch of people, maybe get her friends together and all of you make a tape or cd for her! |

Subject: RE: BS: Think I need some of those Mudcat hugs! From: katlaughing Date: 04 Mar 07 - 11:18 AM She shares a birthday with me. It can be helpful if she and the rest of you can focus on the outcome you wish for, i.e. visualise her after surgery, full of energy, healthy and doing the things she loves to do. I have a set of visualisation tapes I used pre-heart surgery and immediately following. If you think she would be into that and would like to have them, PM me an addy and I will mail them out asap. My surgeon made sure they put the headphones on and played them for me as soon as I was sent to recovery. They REALLY helped. Another thing which has helped, one woman healed completely from this, is to watch as many funny movies, etc. as possible, as laughter, I kid you not:-), has a healing effect. Lots of hugs and energy coming you way. kat |

Subject: BS: Think I need some of those Mudcat hugs! From: Flash Company Date: 04 Mar 07 - 10:32 AM Not for me, for a very dear friend. Petrina, my best friend's (and Best Man's) wife has just been told she has ovarian cancer. Tests are in full swing, and a hysterectomy is currently scheduled for the 28th (Her Birthday, God help us!) To add to her problems, like me, she has already lost a lung. Not to cancer in that case, but it aint going to help. Sheila & I are offering all the support we can give but feel totally helpless.
