Could anyone help me find the lyrics to this song? It's been stuck in my head for years, but I don't know who wrote or performed it. It opens with:

"When the evening sun goes down, you're gonna find me hangin' around, Well that night life, it ain't no good life, but it's my life."

I've tried various searches but haven't found it. Many thanks to anyone who can clear up this longstanding mystery.

One of my favourite Willie Nelson songs is 'Night Life' I have it on CD and could go listen to it and write out the lyrics, but they would be much more legible if they were typed. Can anyone help?

Steve

I sing the Willie Nelson version......I don't know if others used different lyrics. I haven't gone back to the original for awhile, so hopefully these lyrics and chords are correct.

NIGHT LIFE. (Willie Nelson, Walter Breeland & Paul Buskirk

          F                Ab
You will find me hangin' 'round;

I have always conflated this song in memory with "This Sporting Life" and have finally disentangled the two of them from each other. Another gold coin for the Cat.

By comparison:

SPORTING LIFE BLUES

I got a letter from my home,
Most of my friends are dead an' gone
That old night life,
That old sportin' life's killing me.

My mother used to say to me,
So young and foolish that I can't see
Ain't got no mother.
My sister and brother won't talk to me.

I've been a liar and a cheater too,
Spent all my money on booze and you.
That old night life,
That old sportin' life is killin' me.

I've been a gambler and a cheater too,
But now it's come my turn to lose,
That old sportin' life
Has got the best hand, what can I do?

There ain't but one thing that I've done wrong,
Lived this sportin' life, my friend, too long;
I say it's no good,
Please believe me, please leave it alone.

I'm gettin' tired of runnin' 'round.
Think l will marry and settle down
That old night life,
That old sportin' life is killin' me.

Recorded by Brownie McGhee
