Subject: Tuners for slotted headstock From: GUEST,cmt49 Date: 05 Mar 07 - 11:49 AM I Have a Martin 00016SGT with slotted headstock. The tuners (machine heads) as supplied are Schallers in chrome with acrylic knobs. They're OK, but I love the quality of the Grovers I bought for my other guitar. The Grover website doesn't list any tuners for slotted headstocks however, so I would welcome suggestions. |
Subject: RE: Tuners for slotted headstock From: BTMP Date: 05 Mar 07 - 12:18 PM Last year I replaced the original tuners on my vintage Martin 0-28 with Waverly tuners and I have been very pleased. This guitar also has the slotted headstock. I ordered the Waverlies from Stewart-Macdonald which provides a very good guide to measuring and determining the exact replacements you would need. Later on, I put Waverlies on my Martin 0-15 (standard headstock). Good luck. -btmp |
Subject: RE: Tuners for slotted headstock From: DADGBE Date: 05 Mar 07 - 06:05 PM Yup, as BTMP pointed out, the Waverly tuners seem to have the best quality these days. You'll love them and your wallet will be quite a bit lighter so your back won't hurt nearly so much when you carry around the remnants of your money. |
Subject: RE: Tuners for slotted headstock From: Richard Bridge Date: 05 Mar 07 - 06:38 PM I have no idea what they cost or whether they are all as good, but one of my guitars has little Gotohs on and they consistently impress me. |
Subject: RE: Tuners for slotted headstock From: catspaw49 Date: 05 Mar 07 - 07:18 PM Waverly at Stew-Mac Waverly is the class of the field, widely used by many of the finest. Modern technology with a vintage look.....it doesn't get better. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Tuners for slotted headstock From: Songster Bob Date: 05 Mar 07 - 11:51 PM I'm surprised Grover doesn't have slotted-style tuners. Have you tried Elderly Instruments for guitar tuners? They have more models of banjo tuner than Stew-Mac, so I'd guess they would have the same for guitar tuners. Bob |
Subject: RE: Tuners for slotted headstock From: Songster Bob Date: 06 Mar 07 - 12:00 AM I just checked Elderly, and they seem to have only one kind of Grover set -- the Sta-tites -- for slotted headstocks. They have several versions of individual Sta-tites for slotted headstocks, plus one set of three-on-a-plate Grovers for same. That said, the other brands mentioned here are very good, in particular the Waverly tuners, but Gotoh are also just fine! Bob |
Subject: RE: Tuners for slotted headstock From: Midchuck Date: 06 Mar 07 - 06:51 AM Spaw slipped up and said something that made sense. There's Waverly and there's everything else. Peter. |
Subject: RE: Tuners for slotted headstock From: GUEST,Riverman Date: 06 Mar 07 - 07:52 AM Waverlys are lovely and they've served me well but on the advice of a luthier I forked out for some Rodgers tuners and they were even better. But are you prepared to re-mortgage your property? |
