Subject: what became of Mark Edwards From: mrmoe Date: 09 Mar 07 - 08:17 AM In '68 - '69 I worked often on Charles Street at both Turk's Head and The Sword In Stone....I've often wondered what became of Mark Edwards, the owner of the Sword....on a recent trip to Boston, I noticed that 13 1/2 Charles Street no longer exists....seems to now be a storage room for a package store....actually, it's hard to believe that with no rear exit (unless you went through Mark's living quarters), it was open at all....and what about Jane, Mark's girlfriend...a beautiful girl who always seemed to be in a bad mood.... |

Subject: RE: what became of Mark Edwards From: curmudgeon Date: 09 Mar 07 - 09:08 AM I last saw Mark in the summer of 1980 at the Sword. The last I heard he had returned to NH and was invloved in real estate.. He owned a very valuable and transferrable seevn day/entertainment liquor license, the sale of which probably left him somewhet comfortable - Tom |

Subject: RE: what became of Mark Edwards From: mrmoe Date: 09 Mar 07 - 09:40 AM I had no idea that the Sword survived until 1980.....those days in the late 60's were difficult, but I wouldn't trade them for anything....we worked for almost nothing and were glad of it....I remember a tall black chef who's "work" I used to admire in the window of the Charles Street Steakhouse, about a half a block from the Sword....always had to settle for toast and coffee at Haskel's..... |

Subject: RE: what became of Mark Edwards From: GUEST,BARRY Date: 10 Mar 07 - 12:16 AM I didn't know the Sword & teh Stone lasted that long either. I can barely rememberthe Turk's Head. I went to Passim's last weekend (Saturday eve) & didn't care for what was on stage, I went by the Nameless & was gonna check it out but couldn't find it. So I figured another "one done gone". I later hard on the radio (WUMB I think) a calender listing that included the Nameless as one of the venues & figured I must have missed. Still I can't find it, maybe it's moved? Anyone know? Sorry I don't know your friend Mark & I don't have any news of him. Charles Street has changed over the years. The Grocery Store is still there, the Church but most else is gone of what would've been there from the 60's. My father ran a Yoga bookstore in one of the cellar store fronts for some time so I used to frequent the area but mostly I was there to drop in on my younger sister Cheryl who'd be hanging out there all the time through out her high school years. That & drugs was my recall of Charles Street during the mid to late 60's. There were a few young street musicians that we hung with "Dill" (harp & guitar) & "Big Moose" (guitar), don't know what happened to them either. Barry |
