Thanks for the explanation, John.

I'll have to look up information about these instruments online as the only one I ever heard of {but I'm not sure if I ever actually heard} is a mandolin.

Best wishes,

Azizi

Azizi,   Zoukfest is a reference to the bouzouki, primarily the modern flat or carved arch back, versus the traditional round back. You will also see the acronym CBOM, meaning the closely related instruments the cittern, bouzouki, and octave mandolin.

I'm curious if the Zoukfest World Music Camp focus on this type of music:

"Zouk is a style of rhythmic music originating from the French Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique. It has its roots in Cadence music from Dominica, as popularised by Grammacks and Exile One. Zouk means 'party' in the local creole of French with English and African influences, all three of which contribute the sound. In Europe it is particularly popular in France, while on the African islands of Cape Verde they have developed their own type of Zouk."

If not, what's the origin and meaning of the camp's name?

Best wishes,

Azizi

I believe Connie Dover will be one of the instructors, there, as well. Having attended her singing classes at 'Stringalong Weekend 2006' in Wisconsin, I would strongly recommend her class to anyone.
In addition to being an incredible singer, she is an excellent and very gracious instructor. A great experience.

I attended Zoukfest in 2005. It was a great learning experience, as well as mighty craic. Greats such as John Carty, Randal Bays, and mando sensation Luke Plumb of Shooglenifty are on the teaching staff. Highly recommended!

Cheers,
Michael
