Pete Seegar's grandson and Jay Ungar's daughter (called The Mammals) did a protest song about the effects of War. They have received death threats about this one.

Looking for the words.

" "Alone on the Homestead," sung from the voice of a woman who has lost her entire family to a war, is a timeless protest song and hauntingly beautiful. Michael Merenda, who wrote the lovely ballad, sings the gender-bending lead vocal, with Ruth Ungar adding harmony."

ALONE ON THE HOMESTEAD
Michael Merenda

I was the oldest in a family with four kids.
[I] don't have much faith in anyone anymore.
The war it took my brothers; the war it took my dad;
The war it took my husband [and] everything I had.

CHORUS: Alone on the homestead
With the bones of the fallen dead.

The enemy was faceless; the country was scared;
The government impatient; the boys were unprepared.
Most families got their boys back in only body bags.
The papers wouldn't even print coffins draped with flags. CHORUS

Casualties were so high, no one could afford
Coffins draped with flags for the fallen of this war.
When the war is over and too many have bled,
I doubt I'll feel much safer alone in my homestead. CHORUS

REPEAT FIRST VERSE.

[As sung by The Mammals on "Departure," Signature Sounds #1295, 2006.]

[The Mammals consist of Michael Merenda, Chris Merenda, Ruth Ungar, Jacob Silver, and Tao Rodriguez-Seeger.]
