Unless I'm mistaken, this series of Marriott Edgar monologues is available on a double CD, in the BBC Radio Collection (also available as a double casette). The monologues are read by various well-known names including Les Dawson, Thora Hird, Betty Driver, Roy Hudd, Roy Castle, and Peter Goodwright.

The series was on BBC Radio in (IIRC) the 1990s (?). Sad to think half of those names have passed on.

I have the BBC cassette version, released in 1993. It's called, not surprisingly, 'The Lion & Albert & Other Marriott Monologues' and the performers are Roy Castle, Bernie Clifton, Les Dawson, Betty Driver (Betty from 'Coronation Street'), Peter Goodright, Thora Hird, Roy Hudd and Kenneth Waller (Grandad from 'Bread').
I imagine it's still available.

Its worth having DAB radio , if only for the 'old' comedy stuff on BBC Seven !!

Yes, the "Lion & Albert" compilation double CD is still available (not sure about the cassettes, but they may be).

If you want to hear Marriott Edgar himself, he performs his own monologue "The Battle of Hastings 1066" on a different comedy compilation CD "You Have To Laugh, Don't You" - I believe that's still available too.

Of course this particular monologue was also recorded by Stanley Holloway, and Eddie Crotty did a great version on the classic Fivepenny Piece live album "On Stage".

We've had a bit of crappy week here, thank heaven for 'Listen Again' and the no-nonsense humour of Marriot Edgar. Click on 'listen again' and select your day. Scroll down to which ever programme you want and it should work on RealPlayer.

Sanity and insanity in one fell swoop.

Is it me or were there a couple of episodes missing from that series of 8 aired on BBC7 last week?
