2007 Obit: Nora Ling R.I.P.

I am sad to have to announce the passing of Nora Ling, wife to one of the few remaining Blaxhall Ship singers Geoff Ling.
The funeral is on Monday so a few quiet thoughts and a moment of reflection on what the Ling family as a whole gave to our Folk Tradition would be appropriate mid-morning.

Sad news. I agree with Miskin Man,the Ling family have made a big contribution to our knowledge of the English singing tradition. Topic produced an LP of theirs in 1977, a wonderful portrait of a singing family recorded by the late Keith Summers. I have heard rumours that the 'Ship',famed singing pub in Blaxhall, where the Ling's and others sang is in danger of 'change of use' which would probably put paid to singing there for good. Not happy news. By the way Miskin Man, very sorry to hear the news about Easter's festival. Good luck in your fight against the bureaucrats.
