Her request: " - Do you have any suggestions where I might be able to find an orginal Almanac Singeres recording of "Dear Mrs. Roosevelt" from the 1940's. I've checked at Smithsonian/Folkways, but they don't have anything. The group was pre-Folkways and made their recordings on small labels. Thanks again for all your help. Hilary " I'll check around. Anyone have it laying in their basement? I have a recording of Bob Dylan singing it. Yech. Dani |
31 Mar 99 - 12:14 PM (#67083) Subject: RE: Alamanac Singers recording sought From: Dr John This was issued as Keynote K305A, a side of a 78 album about 1942. Pete Seeger takes the lead. I don't think it was released until a couple of years ago when Bear Family issued in in a ten CD set "Songs for Political Action" BCD15720. Very expensive! A can imagine the Dylan one is as you say; Almanac fans will not appreciate it! |

I'm sure he can get you the 10 CD and book set from Bear Family. It may be expensive, but it's a remarkable example of fine research and writing. Very important stuff for anyone interested in the history of political songmaking. Sandy |
