08 Apr 07 - 09:37 PM (#2020204) Subject: BS: Iraqi bigwig details horrific mismanagem From: 282RA Iraqi details shocking U.S. missteps By CHARLES J. HANLEY AP Special Correspondent NEW YORK Apr 8, 2007 (AP)— In a rueful reflection on what might have been, an Iraqi government insider details in 500 pages the U.S. occupation's "shocking" mismanagement of his country a performance so bad, he writes, that by 2007 Iraqis had "turned their backs on their would-be liberators." "The corroded and corrupt state of Saddam was replaced by the corroded, inefficient, incompetent and corrupt state of the new order," Ali A. Allawi concludes in "The Occupation of Iraq," newly published by Yale University Press. Allawi writes with authority as a member of that "new order," having served as Iraq's trade, defense and finance minister at various times since 2003. As a former academic, at Oxford University before the U.S.-British invasion of Iraq, he also writes with unusual detachment. The U.S.- and British-educated engineer and financier is the first senior Iraqi official to look back at book length on his country's four-year ordeal. It's an unsparing look at failures both American and Iraqi, an account in which the word "ignorance" crops up repeatedly [snip] http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=3021176&page=1 |

Spending more tax dollars, sacrificing more American lives, getting ready to botch an invasion of Iran and trying to form a Sunni/Arab/U.S. coalition. He won't be satisfied until the entire Middle East is in flames. Still, there are his defenders. Amazing isn't it? |

09 Apr 07 - 12:05 AM (#2020275) Subject: RE: BS: Iraqi bigwig details horrific mismanagem From: 282RA BAGHDAD - The powerful Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr ordered his militiamen on Sunday to redouble their battle to oust American forces and argued that Iraq's army and police should join him in defeating "your archenemy." The U.S. military announced the weekend deaths of 10 American soldiers, including six killed on Sunday. Security remained so tenuous in the capital on the eve of the fourth anniversary of the U.S. capture of Baghdad that Iraq's military declared a 24-hour ban on all vehicles in the capital from 5 a.m. Monday. The government quickly reinstated Monday as a holiday, just a day after it had decreed that April 9 no longer would be a day off. [snip] http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18005279/ Lieberman is saying that Sadr's call to oust the Americans is proof that the surge is working. It's working so well that Iraq's most powerful cleric called for the targeting and ousting of the Americans. What am I missing here? Lieberman also pointed out that Sadr is calling for more sectarian violence but a unity in order oust the Americans--proof that the surge is working. WELL HEY NOW!!!! What a brilliant strategy for us to get them to stop fighting each other by turning on us! And, boy, is our plan working!! Just ask McCain walking down the streets of Baghdad by himself going shopping without fear. So here's two guys whose careers will be ruined when we start withdrawing. |

"What a brilliant strategy for us to get them to stop fighting each other by turning on us!" ...but think about it. Isn't that they way it is? Fight amongst yourselves until someone on the outside threatens you and then you gang up on the outsider. Its very small town. |

If push comes to shove they will all turn on the US. Barry |

09 Apr 07 - 01:12 PM (#2020542) Subject: RE: BS: Iraqi bigwig details horrific mismanagem From: Bobert Well, well, well... Did anyone see John McCain on "60 Minutes" last night doin' the leisurely, carefree stroll thru the Baghdad market??? Then, as Paul Harvey used to say, "Now for the rst of the story"... Seems that the stoll wasn't quite as leisurly or carefree as had previously been reported in the news as the was being escorted (in bullet proff vest) thru the market by 20 heavily armed Marines and 2 Blalckhawk helicoper gunships overhead... And just today the news is that another 10 Amwericans died over the weekend and unknown number of Iraqis... And it was also reported that the Shiites have grown bored with "The Surge" and are ready to get back to the insurgency which they kinda took a break from... Bottom line, the Shiite militas are toying with the US and can play "He who fights and runs away lives to fight another day", just as the North Vietnamese did... Same war, different day... This war was lost when George Bush's daddy's Supreme Court slected Junior to be president... That, my friends is when it was certain that the US would be beaten in Iraq... And, like I have said before and will say again... This decision, next to Lincoln's to allow the War for Southern Independence to occur on his watch, is the worse forien policy decision in our country's history... And even worse than Vietnamn solely becuase we had Vietnam to go by as a model.... Bobert |

09 Apr 07 - 01:26 PM (#2020557) Subject: RE: BS: Iraqi bigwig details horrific mismanagem From: Donuel Today on the anniversery of the Saddam statue being pulled down, 100,000 Iraqis have taken to the streets(no cars are allowed as dictated by American troops) and are demonstrating against the American occupation. Depending on which broadcast you hear the number varies from 1,000 to 10,000 to 100,000 demonstrators. |

09 Apr 07 - 02:42 PM (#2020612) Subject: RE: BS: Iraqi bigwig details horrific mismanagem From: Little Hawk If push comes to shove they bloody well should all turn on the US, and so should the rest of the world. Outlaw nations that invade other, smaller and weaker nations on a whim (or just because they're strong enough to do it) are outlaw nations, period, and they are beyond tolerance...even if they do have temporary military supremacy. Eventually they find themselves with barely any friends in the world at all. Most of the world eventually turned on Hitler, Mussolinia and Tojo for that sort of outlawry in the 40's. Remember? And they thought they were "the good guys"...(the fools) There are some fools in Washington who are laboring under under the very same illusion. |

11 Apr 07 - 08:31 PM (#2022728) Subject: RE: BS: Iraqi bigwig details horrific mismanagem From: Little Hawk It sounds just like the USA's estimates of numbers of enemy dead during the Vietnam war, Wolfgang.... Just figure out the estimator's bias and their agenda...then multiply or divide by 10 to get an approximation of the true number. ;-) |
