BS: breaking news

Freak wind storm is destroying parts of southern California with power outages and car pile ups and fires. Houston is under a tornado watch...There has been an emergency shut down of a nuclear power reactor...

I would know more but MSNBC actually cut off their broadcast of the emerging emergencies and went to a story on a development in the Anna Nichol case.

I'm aware of the fire and shutdown of the Indian Point Nuclear Plant in New York last week. Have you discovered a new one?

Picture of a large uprooted tree in this evening's newspapers - hurricane force winds and bush fires apparently. Anyone from California want to check in?

Legally speaking broadcast news channels no longer have to serve the public welfare.

fire Imus? Hell we should boycott MSNBC and other select news shows for no longer covering news.

A total and effective boycott would be heard even in the most conservative of board rooms.

The nuke plant shut down was just a piece of scrolled news I briefly saw while the windstorm story was told... I don't know for sure if it shut down at this moment or last week. ?

No storms here -- a breezy day, but no stress.

This Morning

"Utility crews worked Friday to restore electricity to thousands of Southern California customers in the aftermath of fierce winds that downed power lines, stoked a wildfire that damaged homes and triggered a sandstorm that may have led to a fatal highway pileup.

"Winds were decreasing across the region, the National Weather Service said.

"More than 246,000 utility customers lost power in the region after the winds shrieked in Thursday.

"The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power still had more than 73,000 customers without power at late morning Friday. Southern California Edison was working to restore service to about 2,300."

Don, you are laboring under the common misconception that television news exists for the purpose of keeping people informed. It doesn't. Just like everything else on television, it exists solely for he purpose of getting you to spend money. The story that's going to get the most coverage is always going to be the one with the highest potential for generating soap sales.

I suggest you shoot your television, tune your radio to your local public broadcasting station, and weld the dial in place.

Thanks, Ebbie... some people are sceptical that California even exists, let alone that it was having troublesome weather!

Better yet, Don, subscribe to a newspaper, and start reading the really long articles first.

Analysis happens.
