From: Anne Lister Will be working just outside Leicester next week and wondering if there are any folk clubs I can visit ... I'll be on the Market Harborough side of town but have a car. Will be in the area Monday to Thursday inclusive, so clubs over the weekend won't be of much use. Thanks! Anne |

From: Anne Lister Thanks, WLD - I'll see how the energy levels are keeping up for any clubs beyond a 20 mile radius, bearing in mind my work days start at 8 am (that's 8 am at work, not leaving my bed), but I'd like to make it to at least one of your suggestions! 17 Apr 07 - 04:18 PM (#2028093) Subject: RE: Any folk clubs near Leicester Mon - Thu? From: Anne Lister Hi, Kitty No, I probably won't! As I said earlier, the main trouble is going to be the fact that I'll have to be up and about very early each morning, so I don't think I can burn the candle at both ends ...On the other hand, there may be chances to visit some of these other clubs in due course, if work brings me that way. 18 Apr 07 - 05:24 PM (#2029289) Subject: RE: Any folk clubs near Leicester Mon - Thu? From: Herga Kitty Ruth Archer - this may be thread drift, but yes, Steve is a great singer of trad and contemporary songs, and has written songs of his own that deserve a wider audience. Including Tracks in the Snow, The Bard, and We are children of the earth. Attempts to persuade him that he should record his songs on CD have not so far been successful. Kitty |

19 Apr 07 - 02:44 PM (#2030221) Subject: RE: Any folk clubs near Leicester Mon - Thu? From: Herga Kitty Tabster - Steve's e-mail to me said he doesn't travel very far for his singing, but you might find him at the Molly O'Grady's session or the Tom Hoskins on Wednesday. Hearing Steve at my first Wareham Wail in 2000 and finding out that he (and other good singers at the Wail) frequented the Anchor Middle Bar sings in Sidmouth week was one of the reasons I ventured back to the Middle Bar in 2001! 22 Apr 07 - 03:09 AM (#2032429) Subject: RE: Any folk clubs near Leicester Mon - Thu? From: GUEST 23rd April there is an extra night at the Grand Union in celebration of St George. Below is some text from Bill Wilkes, the club organiser. Anyone in the area on the 19th May might be interested in a Harmony Workshop being run by Craig; Morgan; Robson and/or their evening concert along with Mary Humphreys and Anahata -see wilbur.org.uk for details. Pete Burnham lfd.org.uk "Celebrate St George's Day with Dolphin Morrismen and Anstey Morrismen on Monday 23rd April at the Soar Bridge Inn, Barrow upon Soar, nr Loughborough. Dancing will start at 8.00 and will be followed by an open music session / singaround in the pub. There can be no better way to mark the day of England's patron Saint than sitting in an English riverside pub watching the quintessentially English pastime of morris dancing, refreshed by English ale and then rounding the evening off with live English music (possibly with the odd Irish, Scottish or even French tune thrown in just to show were not xenophobic). Come and join us and if you sing or play, bring your instruments and voices. Dolphin and Anstey are both lively sides and fine exponents of the art of morris dancing. They also include amongst their numbers some great musicians and singers, some of whom are regular visitors to the Grand Union Folk Club. To find out more about the two sides and where they will be dancing throughout the year visit their web sites: http://www.dolphin-morris.co.uk/ http://www.ansteymorris.com/ To find out more about the pub visit: http://www.everards.co.uk/pubs/soar_bridge_inn_126/" |
