Thank You All (from Jim Lad)

Subject: Thank You All.
From: Jim Lad

In recent years, I have gone from full-time entertainer playing six nights per week, to stay-at-home dad playing no more than once a month. It is a choice I've made in the past and am happy to do all over again with my second time around, family.
The rewards are endless but the down side of not working/socializing can be a bit disheartening.
A few months ago, I began blogging on CTV's political forum & was shocked to find that I had the greatest difficulty constructing even the simplest sentence. Then I received an e-mail from someone wishing to buy an album and that person pointed me in the direction of Mudcat. (I think it was Mickey)
Here, I have found a whole bunch of folk who share a common thread. Our love for folk music.
I get to write to you on a daily basis, banter back & forth in a harmless sort of way and at the same time, sharpen my skills.
I can write now. I can set aside some time and know that there is a good possibility that I will have something on paper when I'm done.
In a year or so, I fully expect to be travelling again and sharing my music in many different places. By then. I will have a new album to share and will probably have evolved a little as an entertainer.
So now, I'm moving on to the next phase. I've moved Brenda's office to make room for a practise studio and will be spending more time in there.
As I write this, I realize that we all have our own reasons for being here and no-one knows what goes on in our lives as we post our light hearted threads on Mudcat. Which leads me to think of Scrump, at this particular time in his life and I'm hoping that things will turn out well for himself & his family.
In short: I want to say "Thank You" to all of you. Even Big Mick.
I'll still be here but I should be practising more so that I can come and meet yous, down the road.
Thanks again.
Jim.

Good Morning All, from the frosty Highlands on Vancouver Island..

Aww, you ain't so bad, just grumpy. But anyone who lives anywhere near Vancouver, let alone Vancouver Island, at least has a sense of beauty about them. Vancouver, BC might be my favorite city on earth. Drive across the Lion's Gate bridge, catch the tram up to Grouse Peak, look down on the campus of the University sitting on the point against the Pacific. Do this on the right type of day, and it would be OK to leave this earth on the spot and feel like you had seen it all.

See you on the road. Mebbe we can sing one?

Mick

Hello Jim,

Good luck with all your writing, entertaining and the high life of folk music!

I've never had the chance to visit Vancouver...but if I ever do, I'll be sure to look you up...

Cheers from an idyllic spring day in deepest Suffolk (England).

Peter

hi Jim Lad , just be welcome here , I have not seen much of you here
becouse I havent been here lately much work to do .

I live in Iceland and there were few years going before I med
the Mudcatters in person , I first went to N- Ireland and med some of them there and then I went to USA and med many of them there
and I med some great folks both who where playing music and some
who are just coming along with us to have fun and listen to music .

In Iceland we dont have much chance to play my band that is
becouse folk music is just not in here , people go to the pup
about midnight or later and no band who play folk music can
handle it playing for drunkers? not us , so my plan is to
go outside Iceland with the band and play some where people
listen .

I hope we see much of in here Jim .
thank you for being you .
All the best Skarpi Iceland.

Don't be a stranger now, Jim! It's a long bloody way for me to Vancouver (though you never know...) but hope to bump into you somewhere down the road.

It's a long way to Vancouver for me too. I'm around but I have to do other things. "Thank You" is the real message. not "Goodbye".

Thank you for posting this, JL.

When I've worked out how to sort Myspace I'll re-invite you to be my friend! If you don't hear from me it's because I haven't worked out how to sort Myspace!

You're quite welcome, Jim. I've loved your Margaree song since I first heard it several years ago and was lucky enough to get your recording with it. If you'reheading towards Halifax, let us at the Harbour Folk Society try to find a spot for you.

Hello Jim,

Good to hear it's not goodbye. What a lovely idea to say thank you. We should do it more often!

Don't forget those front row seats at the Albert Hall. Me and Geordie Peorgie have it all sorted...just need the date and the bus fare!

Best wishes,

Peter

And thanks for sharing your music with us, Jim. I've been a "fan" ever since I came upon some clips of your singing over the internet. Brilliant!

Jim,
Everyone here seems to know you but me!
I just want to second your Thank You. There's no way to say how valuable this Mudcat place can be for us shut-ins who are now out of contact with the music and the gig-to-gig road life. Mudcat does keep me connected to so many old friends---and new ones too---for sure.

All the best,

Art Thieme

Jim-

I'm pleased you've found this place useful and amusing, and ignored the parts that are less useful and amusing.

I'll probably be revisiting Vancouver/Victoria some time next summer and I'd sure like to meet you. First round on me!

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Nice to see another "Catter" from my neck of the woods. I'm guessing that if you're from the frosty highlands of Vancouver Island, then you must be up Comox way! I'm on Saltspring Is. Is there a site I can go to to hear your music?

I don't know you, personally, Jim, but I've run across your name in the threads I've read. You've got a good head on your shoulders, and I'll try to listen to some of your music since I now have your webpage on my favorites list thanks to katlaughing. I enjoy this site as well...and thanks to you all for having it!
