The Folkaholicks would like to invite you all to a monthly anything goes folk session. Every last Thursday night from 8.30pm til 11.00pm and every last Sunday afternoon 4 o'clock until about 7 o' clock.
The pub is right on a canal has yummy real ale namely Broadside, Specled Hen or Spitfire (Yummy Yummy) and roaring fire's in the cold Winter nights. The Summer has already started so who is coming for the next one on Thursday 26th and Sunday 29th? The Pub is on the Bourne End Rd next door to the petrol station, in Winkwell, Bourne End, Near Hemel Hempstead, Herts.

Should point out it is down the lane next to the petrol station, so you can't see it from the road. You have to seemingly turn onto the forecourt before you can see the lane.

Hello Mr Happy. What a good name. I was listening to 'Happiness, happiness, the greatest gift that I possess' last night on the radio. I thought I'd learn it for singaround. That'd be different.

Your website links to the place - very interesting.

This should be take you there too:

Does anyone know if any of the people who used to go to the folk club at the "Steam Coach" pub nearby (Boxmoor Common) 20 odd years ago are still around the folk scene (Sue Farthing)?

Hi Martin/Unicorn Man

Where you gone

I may not be able to make Thursday

I'd still be able to give you a lift Sunday though

Subject: RE: Folk at Three Horseshoes, Winkwell, Her
From: The Unicorn Man

Cheers Ross. See you Sunday then. I hope other people come on Thursday. And yes Jim Martin, Sue is still around, she did a set at The Second Sunday Club at The Rose and Crown in St Albans a few weeks ago, but I have not seen her since. And nice idea Bugsy we will be talking to the land lord about booking guests after the lovely Summer. Which reminds me I have my Towersey tickets all paid for. YIPPEEEEEE. Anyone else going??

Subject: RE: Folk at Three Horseshoes, Winkwell, Her
From: GUEST,Nicholas Waller

If I still worked in Hemel, which I don't, I'd come along. I used to drink in that pub 10+ years ago and even worked it into a short story published in Interzone in 1999... chiefly because of the confluence of road, canal, rail and air (planes stack for Heathrow overhead).

25 Apr 07 - 01:16 PM (#2035509)
Subject: RE: Folk at Three Horseshoes, Winkwell, Her
From: The Unicorn Man

Nice one Nick. I will read that story with intrest and Ross will write a song about it I should think. Anytime you are in the area come and say hello. There will alway be a Folkaholick of some kind playing and singing in the pub from now on, last Thursday 8.30pm til 11.00pm and last Sunday 4.00pm til 7.00pm until we get chucked out. Derick and I were asked not to sing anymore at The Rose and Crown in St Albans the other month. It may have something to do with me spending the three hours before hand at The Lower Red Lion. A REAL REAL ALE PUB. But that is another story. TTFN

Thanks for that "Unicorn Man", please pass on my good wishes to Sue if you see her in the near future. Tell her I'm now living in W.Clare, Eire and if she's ever in this area to look me up, together with any of the old "Steam Coach" cohorts!

Thanks.

Cheers Cathy. There were three of us at one stage, luckly I took my guitar with me and went though some of my old one's. Lot's of people in the pub so that was good. Andy with Guitar who works at Rickmansworth during the week came and will be back. He lives far off and goes home at weekends though. And a local man who is in a band, had a jam with us. He should be back as well. So see you all on Sunday. TTFN

Why do I have an image of the 3 Folkaholics, fully clothed, singing in a cluster in a CenterParcs Dome, underneath the Yuccas and tropical plants?

Or maybe a session in swimwear? Mind your nipples on the aqueezebox Martin? Is that your C# whistle in your trunks Derek?

OMG

Just wondering...

...what's happening in December?

Thursday 27th and Sunday 30th, right?

Sometimes pubs get funny during the festive season. I'd've thought it should be okay in the bar area that you use. But if you haven't already done so, it might be worth checking.

Hello Ross. Sorry we where ignoring you. "Who said that?" Anyway Derick Jan and I had a great time. No new players but some locals SAID they would come back and bring some friends. So that sounds good. Just have to come up with some dates for the folk weekend. I thought if we have on a Saturday that the Sunday is a normal session day it will make it into a weekend. The end of May sounds about right unless you know of any festivals on at that time. Mal said we can use the big car park for campers and caravans with a few small tents on the bank. See you tonight at Barton, then we can get it in the next Unicorn Mag. TTFN.

Did you know end of May is bank holiday weekend, so you could have the two days on the Sunday/Monday

I think Herts show is normally Sat/Sun in Redbourn - not sure if there are any carnivals on that weekend or festivals

End of May has Chippenham, Chester, Cleethorpes and Bude festivals. I'm pretty sure there'll be a few of the ususal suspects going to Bude - Jonno was there last year, as was George P and Hilary Ward. Of course, that might or might not be a show-stopper.

Great news. Just confirmed with Matthew the dates for             The Folk weekend, which are Sat 24th May 14.00 til close and Sun 25th May 2008 12 noon til we've all had enough. He has thrown in a barrel of Spitfire, about 81 pints, to all the folkies who turn up, until it is all gone that is. There will be room for campers and carvans. I will put a new thread on a bit near the time. Mean while who is up for it?

Cheers Ross hope you three had a great time. I have booked the pub up again for the last weekend in July and the last weekend in September. Goodie goodie. The last place I wanted to be last night was at The Three Horseshoes, I was all folked out. So Jan and I went down just to see if anyone else had turned up. The pub was packed full of happy drinkers, so we thought we don't want to upset anyone by singing or playing at them, so we had a couple of drinks and went on our way home.
