23 Apr 07 - 09:45 PM (#2033929) Subject: Lyr Add: THE MEN BEHIND THE BUSHES (Jud Caswell) From: Charley Noble Jud Caswell is a young singer-songwriter based in Maine that I've enjoyed watching develop over the last 5 years or so. He's won some national songwriting awards, which is not surprising to me. He's good and getting better. Last friday evening he filled up our coffeehouse to the brim and sang some of the songs off his new CD titled BLACKBERRY TIME and I was delighted with the sharp biting lyrics of "The Men Behind The Bushes." Well, if you voted for the Bushes the last two times around, this may not be the song for you. However, for growing numbers of people this song could become an anthem: Words and music by Jud Caswell Recorded on BLACKBERRY TIME, © 2007 Jud Caswell, Alderdown Songs (ASCAP) THE MEN BEHIND THE BUSHES Do you see what I see? Up there on the right Smiling like a cat and sliding out of sight They've got Reagan's Teflon And Richard Nixon's soul They're slippery as oil Mean as gasoline Black as Christmas coal Go hopping down the money trail You find it always leads To the Men Behind the Bushes… Can't you smell the greed? They've solved the problem Of seeming too unkind Use Jesus as a body shield As you rob the country blind Keep it simple, let's focus on the war While the riptide of arrogance and influence Drags the living wage offshore You can close your eyes and tell yourself They're looking out for you But the Men Behind the Bushes… Know that that's not true Look me in the eye, tell me it's all right And what we see is what we get Can't you see the cretin king? Can't you see the master's strings? Can you see the puppeteer yet? It's a whirlpool, anyone could drown When the paranoia sucks you in And pulls you down You feel the outrage fading into numb When you realize it only makes more sense The more cynical you become You can close your eyes and tell yourself There's really no one there But the Men Behind the Bushes… Have got me scared. Try following the link to his website. He's also under 30 in age, which I find encouraging. He's got another great song called "Stocks" which I'll probably post on a separate thread. Charley Noble |

But listen to his other songs too. "For Sale" is also excellent, and for mood, "Blackberry time" won me over. Thanks for the link Charley, I already asked him to become "mySpace buddies"... The man (Man? ha! the 30-year old upstart!) is very, very good. |

Oh, the pain! Jud's song "Stocks" has got the devil in there wheeling and dealing. It's very dark but not that far from reality. And although the song always provokes laughs, it's got that biting edge. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

25 Apr 07 - 08:51 AM (#2035243) Subject: Lyr Add: STOCKS (Jud Caswell) From: Charley Noble Actually, there's an MP3 of "Stocks on Jud's personal website if you go to "music" but here are the lyrics: STOCKS (Words and music by Jud Caswell, © 2001 Jud Caswell, Alderdown Songs (ASCAP); recorded on BETWEEN THE PAVEMENT AND THE SKY) I am the fox, I am the artist I am the magic man who makes things grow You give me ten, I give you twenty You give me water, I give you Merlot From red to black, Ursa to Taurus From Flinty Michigan to Mexico Don't ask me how, that's not your business Don't make me tell you things you should not know... You've got your class, you've got your image You've got your mistresses and families You need your sleep, need your excuses And plausible deniabilities I know your work, I know your problems Leave those gory details up to me. We'll toast the market, we'll toast to profit And when we're done we will discuss my feeÖ I work for stocks, a gun for hire I'll fire everyone you ought to fire Then change the locks and call the buyer Collect our Bouillon and we'll all retire. Don't look so shocked, say I'm a liar Say you're a businessman who stands for something higher. Take your time; collect your thoughts. Then let this opportunity out of the box: I work for stocks. I see my history precedes me: There are a few of you who knew me when I was a dabbler in guns and slavery I turned Apartheid into pounds and yen. Don't be naïve, don't be so preachy: This is now, and brother, that was then. And this is legal ('til further notice) And we may never get this chance again. I work for stocks...
