Pete, the song is,--- I read it in "The Daily News".

That is how the title is written in my Tom Paxton song book, "Ramblin'Boy and other songs by Tom Paxton. The first line is -------- Civil rights leaders are a pain in the neck.-------- I am getting ready for company so if you haven't located it by Monday I will put it on. Can't right now. Must run. Happy Easter Blessings. Reta

This may be of interest to those that can receive BBC Radio 2.

Wed, 7 Apr, BBC Radio 2, 22.00-22.30 > Singer Tom Paxton presents an eight-part series in which he sings and > chats > with his musical contemporaries, peers and those who have been influenced > by > him. In this first programme, his guest is Pete Seeger.

Reta,

Checked but this is not the same song I remember...

A bit more brain searching brings a chorus like

And you'd better believe it, You'd better believe it. You'd better believe it my friend, It's gonna happen in the end again.

I heard it on a TV programme back in the early 70's and think it was Tom Paxton singing it - maybe it was written by someone else?

Thnx

Pete (Clansfolk)

Hi Pete. I hope you had a very nice Easter. I have checked the Paxton song book and not one of them has the words you remember. This book was issued in 1964 so is probably before the one you are searching for. I have surfed a few Paxton sites and came up empty. The Mudcat always comes up with the goods sooner or later. Patience. It will come.

Hi Pete;

Perhaps it would be better to start a new thread and leave Paxton's name off. ( The power of suggestion?) Also, what is the story line of the song? Love, war, home, comic, etc.? That may help.

Regards and blessings Reta

Just back from 2 festivals (working hard!!!)

Found a verse at Morpeth Festival,

Now I read it in the papers and I heard it on the news, They were talking on the corners it was up and down the queues, They were talking revolution and they cheered the new regine, They were winking at the new Lord who was skimming off the cream,

Chorus, and you'd better believe it etc......

next verse about a drunk on a bar stool, but we couldn't get any further (must have been the XXX !)

Political based song I would think?

I don't think it's Paxton--Americans don't usually use the word "queue" for line; other locutions sound more Brit than Yank as well. --seed

Hi Pete:

I didn't have time to check all of the Paxton songs out as I have only found this site today. I don't know if I am just slow to find things or if it is really a new site. Anyway, there are a lot of songs from Dylan, Baez, Paxton, Hardin, etc., so I am sending it in hopes that you can put it to good use.

Hi again;

I forgot to add that I would start a new thread with the lyrics you have now and leave Paxton off. You have a lot more information now so it will be easier for someone to mail it.

Luck and blessings Reta

https://secondhandsongs.com/artist/88981

There is bit information and a play-link to the YouTube Video.

Hiere's the text as far as I understood (I'm german so maybe There are faults in it PLEASE correct if so)

You'd better believe it

I read it in the paper
And I heard it on the news
They were talking on the corners
It was up and down the queues
They were talking revolution
And they cheered a new regime
They were winking at the new lords
Who were skimming off the cream

Chrorus
And you better believe it
You better believe it
You better believe it friend it's gonna happen
In the end of day

Would you better believe it
You better believe it
You better believe it friend it's gonna happen
In the end of day

Like a drunk upon his bar stool
With an endless string of jokes
They are serving all their theories
Like a trail of stale smoke
And they dress it up and dust it
Tie it up with golden rope
Then they leap onto the telly
And they sell it just like soap

Chrorus
And you better believe it
You better believe it
You better believe it friend it's gonna happen
In the end of day

And you better believe it
You better believe it
You better believe it friend it's gonna happen
In the end of day
