Hey Harvey!

Welcome to the mudcat, or have you been hiding behind another name?

Found this thread which has many (all?) of the lyrics to "Time," which I expect to hear by you on April 16 at my house!

Thread about the Pozo Seco Singers.

Time
(Pozo Seco Singers, 1960's)

Some people run, some people crawl;
Some people don't even move at all.
Some roads lead forward, some roads lead back;
Some roads are bathed in light, some wrapped in fearful black.
Time, oh time, where did you go?
Time, oh good, good time, where did you go?

Some people never get, some never give;
Some people never die, and some never live.
Some folks treat me mean, some treat me kind;
Most folks just go their way, don't pay me any mind.
Time, oh time, where did you go?
Time, oh good, good time, where did you go?

Sometimes I'm satisfied, sometimes I'm not;
Sometimes my face is cold, sometimes it's hot.
At sunset I laugh, at sunrise I cry;
At midnight I'm in between, and wondering why.
Time, oh time, where did you go?
Time, oh good, good time, where did you go?

I've always thought this song was kind of inspiring. Now that I've taken the time to transcribe the lyrics, I've found it's somewhat less than profound. Oh, well...

Thanks to Joe Offer and Barbara Shaw for responding.

Barbara, I was certainly surprised to see you reply to my request. Who would have thought anyone I knew would reply to my first Mudcat message, let alone the person who gave me the name of the song performers so I could post it.

Hope to see you on the 16th, with full lyrics to Time in hand.

To Joe, if you're reading this, thanks again.

Harvey

Thanks for those lyrics, Joe. I heard the fourth line of the first verse as "Some roads are bathed in light, some wrapped in funeral black."

Always loved this song. I don't know for profound, but it is haunting.

I suppose it could be "funeral," Rita, but I'm still putting my money on "fearful" unless you have some sort of proof. I played it over several times at that point, and I still hear "fearful." The singer has a beautiful voice, but her diction leaves something to be desired.

Always loved that song, profundity not withstanding.

Anyone want the chords?

(C)Some people (Dm)run, (G)some people (C)crawl,
(C)Some people (Dm)don't even (G)move at (C)all.
Some roads lead forwards; some roads lead back.
Some roads are bathed in light; some wrapped in fearful black.

(C)Time, oh (F-C-Dm)time (G)where did you (C)go?

Don Williams re-recorded this song in his solocareer on his Harmony album of 1976. There he sings 'fearful black'. Also he leaves the middlest verse out:

Some people run, some people crawl;
Some people don't even move at all.
Some roads lead forward, some roads lead back;
Some roads are bathed in light, some wrapped in fearful black.
Time, oh time, where did you go?
Time, oh good, good time, where did you go?

Sometimes I'm satisfied, sometimes I'm not;
Sometimes my face is cold, sometimes it's hot.
At sunset I laugh, at sunrise I cry;
At midnight I'm in between, and wondering why.
Time, oh time, where did you go?
Time, oh good, good time, where did you go?
