I had a delightful time on St. Patrick's Day when I drank enough whiskey to sing along with one of the band members who stayed after to share his musical talents with us. My 19 year old son came along as designated driver, and I was so proud of him for singing along too. His favorite was a song that went, "All for me grog, me jolly, jolly grog. It's all for me beer and tobacco. For I spent all me tin, with the lassies drinkin' gin, and (something something something) I must wander." There was a verse about a threadbare shirt or coat, and "me nobby nobby boots." I found two jolly jolly grog songs in the database, (Oh For Me Grog; and Here's to the Grog) but both are different versions than the one we sang along with at the K of C. Does anybody have any other versions of the grog song? I'm happy to see you're all still keeping up the tradition of civil discourse about painfully controversial subjects. (war, prejudice and anarchy) Can I add another thread about alcohol abuse to the mix? |

I tried finding it in the database for you, but it wouldn't let me search for anything tody, so I've copied what I have and hope it might be the version you're looking for.
Well it's all for me grog, me jolly jolly grog

06 Apr 99 - 03:58 PM (#68560) Subject: RE: Me jolly, jolly grog From: SeanM Several people I know do their own private versions of several verses... One of my personal favorites made it onto stage without the rest of the band's knowledge during an event last year... "Where is me hat, Me bloody, blasted hat? It's all gone for beer and tobacco (Looks up at hat on head) Oh! There it is! How embarrassing..." At this point the song hit a serious snag as the rest of the band members tried to continue playing while laughing... Apologies to Skipjack, Gaffer, Stu and the rest involved in this bit of comic brutality... M |

My son will be thrilled, and we'll practice it for our summer back-yard sing-a-longs. P.S. Which western ocean would I have to wander to find Oz and Stavenger? I closed this thread in an attempt to avoid splitting the discussion. Please post in here (click) or one of the related threads listed in the crosslinks toward the top of this page.
