He cut a sappy sucker from a muckle rodden-tree,
He wheepled on't at mornin' as' he tweetled on't at nicht,
For lyin' lang o' mornin's he was clawed the caup for weeks,
He played a march to battle, it cam' dirlin' through the mist,
He blew them rants sae lively, schottisches, reels, an' jigs,
But the snaw it stopped the herdin' an' the winter brocht him dool, Charles Murray |

He'd take a bit of green branch and a jacknife and make a whistle as he sang it, handing it to a kid in the audience when he was done. Does anyone recall the tune (which Bob may well have made himself, I suppose)? In my memory, the text was a bit anglicised as well. But that may be memory playing tricks. |
