Eldest lad had problems with the computer and, after it locked up, rebooted and gave up.
I came on, logged on and was annoyed to find no real sound, only a tinny muttering from the region of the black box.
Bugger thought I. Tried the volume controls etc. to no avail, rebooted, still to no avail and still just the afore mentioned tinny sound. Even tried the Control panel etc.
Rebooted again and called aforesaid son to ask what had happened when the thing locked up on him, then went on to explain that there was no sound from the speakers.
Son then said "Ah!" and proceded to unplug his mini-earphones from the socket.
As I said, I feel a right twit!

I'd have thought it'd be eldest lad who is the right twit in this episode. Maybe you're the left twit, sapper, but he got into twit country first.

do it all the time with my radio headphones.

PC locks-up on boot if I have the MP3 (As a mass storage device) plugged-in - panic really sets-in then. It is hidden under the desk!

Now about those back-ups you take regularly..................

That's OK--my dad and I spent all evening swearing because we couldn't get our new mastering program to record from the record player, until it occurred to us that, while the turntable was connected to the amp and the computer was connected to the speakers, we were missing the wire that should have connected computer and amplifier. Duh.
