MAX &thePARANOIDS--New Family Band

To quote my Dad ... GEEZUS KEYRICED !!!

The things that go on around this place...

It probably will surprise many of you, but I do have a life outside of here and yesterday I was attending to it. I do training for adoptive/foster parents (yes, you are required ongoing training to be one; pity that doesn't apply to bio parents as well--the only requirement there is, well......). Strangely enough, the class I taught yesterday covers some of what went on here last evening. We lose great numbers of foster parents and have many disrupted adoptions in this country because the reality does not match the expectation. Of the three classes I teach, this one is the most important, a bare knuckles kind of thing that explodes myths and altruistic expectations. Anyway, a portion of it is relative here.

MAX

First I think you had a real eye opening experience. I think you knew Mudcat was important to us, but this was more than you imagined. You are the one that created this place and somehow it has attracted a diverse yet similar group of people that view it as a community or family...and indeed it is! Art commented in a different thread that it's his first functional one. If all you attracted were people like me, it would not be the same...God help us. Or if you only had Bruce and Bill D. it wouldn't be the same. Or if katlaughing and Barbara were the only types here......you get my point I'm sure. The diversity of personality and specific interests combined with that odd flavor of caring that folkies tend to have, has brought something unique to the web. But it did get to you that all these folks are kicking your ass for something you did on your own site. That's natural. It's like a foster parent who expects a bit of "gratitude" for what they do. Gratitude is a lot closer to happening here than with any foster parent. But it's like I preach to them, don't do anything that doesn't bring you satisfaction from within...forget altruism, read Ayn Rand,be selfish...and you will get more out of everything and make the tough times and kids easier to deal with. You hit the nail on the head when you said (hey,a rhyme) that you'd prefer to be a member!!! Hell Max, you are...and you need to start seeing yourself that way. Throw in a few more posts, pass on a few more personal notes...you should be proud of what you created, now take advantage of it for R & R, info, fun, whatever, as you go along with your other business and the pain in the ass of running the 'Cat. I know it creates pressure, let it relieve some too. Remember that if you're not enjoying it...don't do it. So try it as a member too!!! And thank you from me and the rest for doing what you do and for what you've created. NOW...JOIN UP!!!

MUDCATTERS

Life is fleeting and ephemeral. With or without the 'Cat, the friendships in many cases will go on. I can get in touch with the people here that I am closest to and would want to continue our relationships. But I do believe Max is committed (or possibly should be after dealing with this lot)to Mudcat and now we need to be sure we support him. SEND MONEY...BUY SHIRTS...PESTER HIS ASS WITH FUND RAISERS......but also, encourage him to join the family, village, whatever and reap some of what he's sown.

Yes, kat my dear, there is such a thing as a practical joke...this has been an example. Things have been pointed out here that needed to be...and now we grow past them. Keep bugging Max, you have great ideas...but he's got to be a "member" first. Well, maybe that's phrased wrong. I've been called a "member"......but they used a different word.

chees louise catspaw cletus would never say nuffink like that. But well out. I must say that sitting here and typing into some of the threads I myself do get carried away. But in the short time I have been coming into the 'Cat I have been welcomed and accepted. Even though I am a bit of a brat and sometimes the odd choice word slips from my fingers (which I promise I will be more careful with in future) I have felt that the people here are like a family, say something or argue a bit and its all water under the bridge.

Yes, Ayn Rand a good recommendation. This is all too true of the 'net. People like Max set something up and then the oiks come in and start thinking that they own the place, the person/people that began it get irked and it either gets taken over or goes down the drain. But Max, you are here you are the guy that keeps it all together and thank you humbly and sincerely from the bottom of my heart. At a n extremely difficult time in my life I found something that keeps me going day to day and helps me forget for a while my situation, making me feel a little more like a human being again.

catspaw: you just couldn't go a whole posting without being "humerous" could you? **BIG GRIN**

Well, that does it. From now on, if I have anything even remotely profound to say (instrument evaluations excepted) I'm asking Catspaw to say it for me. Today I start seriously researching the bodily functions of possums, armadillos, groundhogs and kazoos in order to become worthy. But, jeez 'Paw, have I gotta dig out the "Ayn Rand" again? Can't I just rent the movie?

Seriously though, well said.

Alistair, please don't stop "those" words from slipping out. By the way, what's an "oik"? Heather says it's like a yobbo, but my Glaswegian is weak.

Rick, your Heather is absolutely correct, and mostly used by the gentry to describe misbehaved peasant types. But to me it's any type of yobbo. And if you want to get into serious discussion about catspaw and his possum fixation let's keep it going in the kazoo thread.

Thank you Rick...The movie will do fine. It's available only on Beta since her definition of selfishness does not match that of the world today. Bummer.

And I'm way too up holler'......The boys told me a yobbo is a sorta' "jackleg"...and I know lots of them!!!

yobbo of course comes from the back slang for boy with the extra 'bo' added for emphasis.

You know, I was in the middle here on this: I did believe the whole thing, swallered it down like a good little fishie and got drug all over the creekbed. I called up a buncha friends, got a pity party going, and boom, it comes out to be a joke. Okay, I'm a true believer. If I was any more gullible, I'd be watchin' 'rasslin' and writting nasty letters to Vince MacMahon!

However, I did get the concept of the joke. I have had a few worse ones pulled on me, (some involving actual physical injury,) and I did decide, "sheesh! He's right The 'cat could use the cash."

However, I am short right now...(No hight jokes!) Wait until the ol' IRS spits out the check and the money will be in the mail.

And I like Max...Medium well with a side order of coleslaw! (Nah, I forgive him, it was a beautiful night for a party anyways!)

Mikal......Do you use a cane? Please read Bill D.'s post in the "Ask not what Mudcat....." thread. At the end he has a "little" story.

Nah...he's alright ... just temporarily Tolkeinized, a strange affliction dating back to the 60's. Plenty of bedrest and a different trilogy, say, maybe "Hitchhiker's Guide"...the best 5 part trilogy I can think of. Then he'll just have to concentrate on where his towel is. 'Course if he loses it from around his waist, he'll go off the deep end again and be saying:

...whopper,whopper,whopper,whopper,condom,whopper,whopper, condom,whopper,whopper,whopper,whopper,condom.whopper,condom,whopper...........

Maybe we need to think of a different trilogy...or maybe just the bedrest will do.

Why, yes, Catspaw, I do use a....Waitaminnit! OOOOOOHHHH! That was a short-tempered thing to say! I am dwarfed by your sarcasm!

(Really the problem is I use a Lynx server. The download time on my little PS1, (Yup, I am still using a text-only piece-o-junk!) is sooooo slow that it matches my brain speed. It's kind of an electronic Karma, I suppose...so most of the threads are just titles to me. If I had an hour or so at a stretch, I could actually read all of one of them!)

Catspaw: It didn't wrap because there were no spaces in that statement. I fixed it.

Do catspaw too, while you're at it, Max. (fix him) This spraying is getting out of hand. If I'd wanted an interior decorator, I'd have invited my mother-in-law.

But if paw gets fixed won't he just become fat and lethargic. Do we really want him fixed?
