John Roberts does this one. Anyone have the lyrics and has he recorded it?

Here's a thread on the song Lyr Req: Carrying Nelson Home, though the words aren't actually posted in that thread. I posted them in Lyr Req: Death of Nelson - Carrying Nelson Home, a thread mainly about other songs related to Nelson's Death (I did post a link in the Carrying Nelson Home thread too).

In the Jazz - World...."bringing"XXXXX" home" frequently refers to a SEVEN or TWELVE (key+minors) return to the root-key.

This could last 12 minutes if you are "goin' roun' de horn" and your are expecting an entire set..... "The Call" is from "the top."

Say, you have been "on the circle" from B-flat for four cycles...no one "has the flow" - "there is no inspiration" - you are currently in Key of D.....it means, sequae this back to B-flat.....let use move on.... (no one is inspired.)

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

ALWAYS Clairify signals, calls, progression with the leader during the hour before performance.

Thanks Mike. I did a search of "Bringing Nelson Home" and found nothing. Anyone know if John has recorded this one?

Martyn has recorded it on his latest CD 'Oceans in the Sky', well worth having as it has lots of other great songs on it. This song is listed as 'Carrying Nelson Home', which might be why Sinsull found nothing.

If you can't find the lyric, or have queries about pronunciation, just let me know.

All the best,

'Carrying Nelson home' (Sing me a shanty) was written by Mike O'Connor who I had the privilage of meeting in the Ring 'O Bells at St Izzy this May Day eve.

The song's on our (Moses and the Ref's) "to learn" list as we (I)think it would go wonderfully back-to-back with Mick Pearce's version of 'The Death of Nelson'

I can dig out a copy of the words as gleaned from Martyn's CD but Mike tells me there is a song book available which I intend to buy as Mike has written other great songs and I'd like to support the writer in this way (Mike hasn't, as far as I know, recorded it himself).

P M me, Sinsul, if you want any more info. (I only check into the Cat every 3-4 days)

Moses - that'll be MCP's version of Nelson's Monument - "The news is come over, through the country spread, that the French were defeated but Lord Nelson is dead", being substituted for the original chorus of "Rule Britannia".

PS - Mick is next month's guest at Herga

That's right, Kitty, a great (my favourite) version of the song.

Looking forward to hearing Mick again next month.

Jim Causley's at Herga tomorrow.

Mike O'Connor's song (as requested in the thread title) was also included in the show that the Keelers put together for the 2005 bicentary commemoration of the battle of Trafalgar, and Sue the Borderer sings it.
