"Meet me in the cornfield, and I'll kiss you between the ears." This lyric pops-up all over the place around here. Where did it first appear.

You have the advantage of me Wilco. I don't recall this lyric ever popping up round here, or indeed anywhere else. Where have you heard it?

Should be- "Meet me in the cornfield, Nellie, I want to kiss you between the ears."

Once sent S a Birthday card with the message 'Come with me to the cornfield and I'll kiss you behind the ears'
Remember Mum singing :-

There was her brother John,
And several hangers on,
When I met Connie in the cornfield

There was her sister Sue,
She brought her cousin too,
When I met Connie in the cornfield.

They all were lined up before me
Singing tell me the old old story

We were both going strong,
When her Father came along,
So I left Connie in the cornfield!

Made it!

Hi Flash,

I'm fascinated by "When I Met Connie in the Cornfield." Was it sung to the tune of "Way Down Yonder in the Cornfield?" Any idea where your Mum got it? Any idea what was its origin?

As for "Meet me" "behind the ears" / "between the ears" Where *does* that line come from? It has the sound of a tag line from a show, movie, stage routine or some similar patter. Hee Haw? Earlier? It tickles my memory but I can't dredge up the reference.

(As an aside, and please don't feel obliged to answer if you don't want to: Excuse me if this is indiscreet, but are you the F.C. of sci fi and recorded fame? If so I am a fan, as I'm sure are many of us here.)

Bob

I seem to recall a naughty variant which went "come with me to the cowshed and I'll kiss you between the calves"

I like to plant kisses between the toes, myself.

(Between the toes on the left foot, and the ones on the right foot)

Head over to the roundhouse, Nellie, they can't corner you there-

I remember the two given here, and that there were others, from some old radio(?) program. Memory gone.
