But there is a rash of signs that just say Highways Agency. Why? You have to take your attention from the traffic to read them, especially when driving in the middle lane, if there are lorries on the inside lane. There were also brown notices, pointing out the tourist attractions in nearby towns, but you could see what they were so didn't have to read them. Then are the notices that say "Tiredness Kills, Take A Break" in big letters, "Services 2 miles" in tiny letters and don't tell you what you want to know - how far to the one after this. Then there was the one in light bulbs that said "Frustration Kills". Next maybe "Reading Unnecessary Notices Kills" |

There's a miniroundabout on the corner of our block. The sign warning of the miniroundabout is 15ft from it. Stopping distance, even at 20mph (the road is 30mph) is considerably longer than 15ft. I frequently miss turnings because the roadsign directing me to take the turnoff is obscured by another road sign telling me to go straight on - a distance of about 6ft between them, which, at 40mph or more, is not enough space to be able to read the sign properly. Personally, I like the 'Highways Agency' signs. They let you know precisely who is to blame for the appaling state of some of our roads. Too often signage and surface conditions are subject to arguments between various councils, departments and agencies - meaning the problems never get resolved because no-one knows who actually deals with it. But I do agree, they could be better placed or coloured differently so you don't have to read them. I'd suggest purple. LTS |

If there aren't on the M6, that's down to the Highways Agency to explain. (They've recently consulted on motorway service areas and other roadside facilities. http://www.dft.gov.uk/consultations/closed/ha_070208 .) Liz - the Highways Agency don't do mini-roundabouts - they're only responsible for the national network of trunk roads.
