05 Jun 07 - 09:46 AM (#2069061) Subject: BS: Remember when? From: black walnut Remember when Mudcat threads were split into Regular / B.S. ? That was a brilliant move. As one of those who can remember way back to the Dorian age when they were all jumbled together, I want to reiterate my thanks to the powers that be (Max etc.) for defining and separating the categories - Wonderbra! ~b.w. |

05 Jun 07 - 02:57 PM (#2069337) Subject: RE: BS: Remember when? From: MMario If there are more music threads posted then BS threads, then believe it or not, more music threads got created/posted to/refreshed then BS threads did in the last 24 hours. The default display is all threads with a posting within the last 24 hours. |

05 Jun 07 - 03:29 PM (#2069368) Subject: RE: BS: Remember when? From: Peace "Bush was elected and gas was a dollar a gallon." I wish a buck was still silver. It was back when the country was strong. Back before Elvis; before the Vietnam war came along. Before The Beatles and "Yesterday", When a man could still work, and still would. Is the best of the free life behind us now? Are the good times really over for good? Are we rolling down hill like a snowball headed for hell? With no kind of chance for the Flag or the Liberty bell. Wish a Ford and a Chevy, Could still last ten years, like they should. Is the best of the free life behind us now? Are the good times really over for good? I wish coke was still cola, And a joint was a bad place to be. And it was back before Nixon lied to us all on TV. Before microwave ovens, When a girl could still cook and still would. Stop rolling down hill like a snowball headed for hell. Stand up for the Flag and let's all ring the Liberty bell. Let's make a Ford and a Chevy, Still last ten years, like they should. The best of the free life is still yet to come, The good times ain't over for good. (Thank you, Merle.) |

05 Jun 07 - 04:02 PM (#2069383) Subject: RE: BS: Remember when? From: black walnut Labelling this thread B.S. was purely accidental! (NOT) Oh I do hear the humour you guys. Maybe we should start a category called "Musical B.S." - or divide up into categories such as GUITAR, ACCORDION, MORE GUITAR, HARP, MORE MORE GUITAR, SINGING, MORE MORE MORE GUITAR.... Seriously I do love that we have a B.S. category here on the 'Cat. It would be a good model for other newsgroups I know to follow. Writing down in the bottom third makes me feel less guilty for tying up space that should be devoted to the serious artistic side of life. ~b.w. |

05 Jun 07 - 04:20 PM (#2069396) Subject: RE: BS: Remember when? From: gnu Peter : "Could it have something to do with the fact that the Mudcat is supposed to be about music?" And the BS section isn't about music? It is about the music of life. It has spawned more than a few songs, a few stories, a few friendships, a few scraps.... I submit to you the hypothesis that both may coexist and, indeed, nuture each other. If not, for you, stay above the line. Me, I like to cross the line. And, as b.w. said, thanks for the ease of being able to do that, Max. |

05 Jun 07 - 04:34 PM (#2069406) Subject: RE: BS: Remember when? From: Joe Offer There are more music threads, but I think there are more non-music posts. Before the split, the 700-message chit-chat threads were constantly at the top of the Forum Menu because they were constantly getting messages to refresh them. To get to the music threads, you had to scroll down to the bottom of the page, since most were not even visible on the screen. People were constantly crabbing about the preponderance of BS posts. We discussed starting a separate forum for BS, but decided we didn't want to divide Mudcat like that. Many of the people who can best answer music inquiries, spend most of their time in the BS threads. If we moved BS to a different forum, those people would never see the music inquiries. Jeff's idea of splitting the forum and leaving it all on one screen, was simple and elegant. Some people don't like it, but the option of mixed messages is available to registered members on the Mudcat Membership page, or in "messages since last visit." I think it was a wonderful solution to a problem that plagued us for years. -Joe- |
