Info about the Lapatrie guitar

I have been reading about the Canadian-made Lapatrie classical guitar in some of the guitar NGs and they sound interesting. Has anyone who owns one or has tried them out an opinion?

As I understand it they are shaped like a classical in every way except they have a narrower profile neck. This is achieved by using a truss rod. It must make the instrument heavier than most classical guitars; but is it appreciably heavier. Is it top heavy?

Does any of the other Aussies know if there is a place in Sydney to see one?

Hello Murray,

LaPatrie is made by the same company that makes Godin, Seagull, Simon & Patrick, Norman, etc. I suggest you email them at sales@lasido.com and ask them for local stores and distributors.

Murray, They aren't at all heavy, and like the other Quebec guitars are very competitive and cheap as dirt (depending on how cheap your dirt is.)

Thanks for the email address Tony. I just sent them an email asking where I can see them here.

Rick, They won't be dirt cheap by the time the get here, and our dollar isn't that strong at the moment. Since you must have handled one. Do they differ from (say Spanish) classical guitars in any other way.

Check their website in the "Links" section of Mudcat. Their site has an excellent little history.

At the top of the page, Click on LINKS and then on the pull down that will appear, their is a category called INSTRUMENT RELATED. Sites are hot linked from there.
