As it is the Sixth , we CAN call this Folklore now , I think ! I know it a bit early , but as I have to arrange a Transatlantic link up , and HOPEFULLY a couple of Gigs I am starting now ! What abouut Portaferry the second weekend of February , Friday 8th to Sunday 10th in 2008 ? Any Takers ?

Once is happenstance...

Twice is coincidence...

Three times - it's TRADITION!!!

So there!

Thought we were going back to the original Portaferry constitution as written by Primula Crispbread, that it shall be on the first weekend in February every year IMMOVABLY!
A certain PeterK was most upset that we had the temerity to hold it on a different weekend this year!

Either weekend will work for me - can all those who think they may be coming let us know their preference, and based on that we can make plans! I'm already looking forward to it!

It all depends on which weekend is best for the maximum amount of people... the previous weekend is Candlemass/Imbolc - I know several people who will be unable to attend.

I'm going to try to get but it's tricky because I'm all of a sudden living alone in London (very expensive) and saving up for another Mongolian rally in 2008 (also very expensive) and an around the world rally in 2009 (even more expensive) and I'm not sure where I'll be living after Christmas blah de blah, but if I can get over then I will. Looks like we might not be able to either... it's been a rough year one way and another and we've just not got the resources available, unless we win the lottery.

Of course if we DO win the lottery, I'll be busy with my new house and Manitas will have bought every melodeon in the country.

There was talk of a trip to Torshavn in Faerøyene sometime in the Spring, and something Icelandic could be fitted in around there, I'd say... Playing in Iceland has been on my wish list for a good few years, now.

An old friend of mine used to own The Dubliner in Reykjavik years back, and although having said I would play there often enough, he sold the place before I could take him up on his offer.

We'll keep in touch skarpi, for sure....

It is Loughstock Sixpack.

And it will be the second one without me.

I need to get repaired,

and the surgery is scheduled for the week from 21th and 25th January, with a week to ten days at the hospital after the op (and some "stay in bed" time after that).

Now it's official, my surgery (hernia inguinalis) will take place in the last week of January, so I definitely can't make it in 2008. Even though the stay at the hospital afterwards will be much shorter than they told me before, I am supposed to stay in bed mostly for one to two weeks afterwards, and the doctors forbid me to go flying so soon after the operation.

I wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy new year!

Enjoy Loughstock Sixpack 2008 (which might be much easier than the last few years as I won't bother you ... ;-)

Subject: RE: Loughstock 2008
From: Peter K (Fionn)

Thanks Giok! My view last year was largely informed by self-interest, because we would have been able to attend OK if the gathering had been on the "traditional" weekend. There is another point, that the traditional weekend coincides with a monthly session at the Fiddlers for locial Irish traditional musicians. I always hoped that some sense of joint enterprise would develop between the locals and the invaders, but it never seemed to work out. (Herge and Jim would be the ideal catalysts for that chemistry to happen, but they usually head back to the deep north before the Sunday session gets going.)

This year I'm sorry to say we won't be there whichever weekend it is. White Tiger's thoughts are now (inevitably) consumed by other matters, and I am more often in Bosnia and Croatia.

Are Greg and Eric still Mudcatting and potential attendees? I hope enough turn up to keep Loughstock alive and kicking, as I'd like to think we'll be back in a year or two.

Enjoy!
