Tune Req: Cape Breton Lullaby

From: Susan-Marie

I learned this haunting song from a Theresa Doyle CD, where she sings it with just a pipe drone in the background.

I'd like to add it to our trio's repertoire, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to add a guitar to the vocal. Has anyone done a guitar accompaniment with it? Mention a CD and I'll buy it, or I'll send you a few bucks so you can send me tape of your interpretation (our guitarist learns best by ear). Thanks.

Can't find the sheet music for this one.
It'll be in "C", for a fiddler if that makes any difference.
Thanks!
Jim

Old thread here cites a number of tunes and lyrics sets, all which appear to be in copyright, so you're unlikely to get free notation though there are many offering it for sale. There is also a variety of MIDIs online but the Mudcat one has gone on a 404.

Bugger! I had the song, in the book mentioned in that thread and could have sworn it was written by a fellow on Lake Ainslie, in the 1800s.

Never mind. I'll write me own.
Thanks Diane.

It was written a long time ago so I am unsure why it would be under copyright...wierd....well, who needs sheet music...mg

Sorry Jim, but Kenneth Leslie was not that old! I was surprised by the request from you as I would have thought that tune would have come to you by simple osmosis from living up that way.

I know it well. The sheet music request was for a fiddler.
Thanks George.

Ah! Thanks. Had a message from GEST and apparently the MIDI file isn't in the Mudcat any longer. We'll have to see what we can do to rectify it. Meanwhile, these are the other threads on the song

In the meantime, GEST's own Web-site has the song and a MIDI

In searching for more information I found a page on Kenneth Leslie's Poetry (including some of his songs) as well as one on the Leslie Family Genealogy

Thanks George: I have the words & music firmly planted, in my head. It was just the sheet music I wanted but since the man didn't have the common decency to live and die in some other century, I no longer have any use for it.
Thanks again for your efforts.
