THE HOBNAILED BOOTS THAT FARVER WORE
^^
Poor (Fm)Farver's feet took up half the street,
So his (Db)boots were in proportion,
And the (Fm)kids he'd squash in a day, by gosh!
It (Cm)really (G7)was a (Cm)caution!

Now (Fm)me and my brother, from the age four
(Eb)Up till eleven, used to sleep and snore
(Fm)Nice and cosy in a box of straw
In the hobnailed (C7)boots that my (Fm)Farver wore.

On a Lord Mayor's Day, just to shout hooray !
Farver went and how he sauced 'em!
But he blocked the dtreet with his big flat feet
And the Lord mayor drove acrossed 'em.

And as he went ariding through the Guildhall door
Farver fell wallop on his back oh lor!
And the crowd stopped hoor'aying then, for all they saw
Were the hobnail boots that me farver wore.

I've got good teeth and it's my belief
I must thank my father for it,
For if we've got coke and we want it broke
I pick it up and gnaw it.

You've all got to eat a peck of dirt or more
before you snuff it it's a wise old saw!
Well I've 'ad my whack, I cut me teeth - oh lor!
On the hobnail boots that me farver wore.

When young kate and Flo went to Southend, so
As money they'd be saving
Farver's boots was seen as a bathing machine
In it, they undressed for bathing.

While they were undressing they forgot, I'm sure,
The hole farver cut for his corn- oh lor!
Now the boys are a giggling at what they saw
In the hobnail boots that me farver wore.

We had a goat wiv a cast iron throat
Though he never used to bite us
Farver's boots he chewed and that goat they slewed
For he died of appendicitus.

Now that goat had whiskers and they touched the floor
And when they were plaited by the kids next door
Made the finest laces that you ever saw
For the hobnailed boots that me farver wore.

David Kossof - The Hobnailed Boots That Farver Wore. I found this on a web search. I think that it must be a very old record, probably not on CD right now.

Maybe someone has a copy somewhere and can send a recording. Maybe someone here knows the song and can put it onto tape. Otherwise, try any second hand record shops around. You might strike lucky.

Good luck anyway.

David Kossoff sang this and other music hall songs in character as "Alf Larkin" (a popular British TV character in the early 1960s) on an LP ("Larkin Singing") which has ended up on Spotify crediting the backing singers, the Mike Sammes Singers, and it seems that album was at some time issues with another LP, a recording of the MSS with Tom Lehrer.
My dad, Fred Robinson, invented "the Larkins" and wrote the TV (and film) scripts and the verbal links on the Larkin LP.
