Chords: Gamble's Guitar

Several of us started talking about Gamble Rogers on another thread, so I thought I would start a Gamble thread. First up, has anyone played around with the chords for Mike Smith's song Gamble's Guitar? I would love to have some help with it. I have more enthusiasm than I do talent! And as Gamble would say I am at times "the square root of sorriness". A classic Gambleism follows: "Still Bill was so sorry you had to line him up with a fence post to see if he was moving." And from Penrod and Elfreida, "Elfreida considered herself an interpretist of the modern dance. Penrod had imported her into our thankful midst after she had been drummed out of high-rolling society in Phoenix City, Alabama after her health card had been punched so many times it disappeared into thin air." Ah, what a way with words Gamble had!

As a member of a family who breed Border Collies, and have the pleaseure? of living next door to a family who own Boston Terriers and smaller "dogs" we have always found comfort in "You know, there are certain kinds of dogs that are bred to be dragged by Russian trawlers as bait. Yap,. Yap."

The best place in the USA, outside of Oklawaha County or Bean Creek, to find the answer to the question will be at the Gamble Rogers Folk Festival...May 1 and 2, St. Augustine Amphitheatre, St. Augustine Florida. I'll wear my Mudcat T-shirt when I'm on stage (presuming it arrives by then!) Y'all come down and say hey! And remember...life's what happens while you're making other plans.

DZ, That line is from the classic Dogs and Dawgs. It is included on Gamble's post-humous CD Oklawaha County Laissez-Faire. All of Gamble's Albums are available on CD from the Gamble Rogers web site.

Paul, I'm not surprised that you are a Gamble fan. I personally feel it is incumbent on all Floridians to carry the Bean Creek flag where ere we trod. Speaking of which: I trod next to you at the Will McLean Festival a few weeks back. I missed your set but caught you when you played with (Al Scortino?). Loved It! Have you ever played Lakeland, FL. A friend of mine promotes folk shows locally. He has done such folk as: Michael Smith, Roy Book Binder, Eric Taylor, Small Potatoes, and Steve Riley. If you have an interest E-me TequilaRon@aol.com and I will send you his number.

Well I've got to head on down to the Terminal Tavern and see if Penrod and Elfreida are there. Rumor has it that there is nothing on the jukebox but Peggy Lee's Fever. I know those good ol boys are lined up right now stoking that juke with legal tender and slavishly waiting for Elfreida to lose herself in a timeless evocation of the dancers art. Will she once again shuck her duds on Charlie's terazzo floor? Ron.
