Wadebridge Folk Fest Cancelled!

20 Jun 07 - 03:23 PM (#2082456)
Subject: Wadebridge Folk Fest Cancelled!
From: Hawker

Hi all,
I received an e-mail this morning, the improtant part of the e-mail was this:

"I am writing to inform you that at a board meeting on 17th June the directors of Cornwall Festivals Ltd reluctantly, but unanimously, took the decision to cancel the Cornwall Folk Festival this year.

The decision was taken on the basis of a significant shortfall in some sources of funding that had been built into the original budget"

This is very sad news indeed, it would have been the 35th Cornwall Folk festival.

I am not posting this as an opportunity for you all to have a go at the organisers, who, I am sure, went through a lot of soul searching before making this decision, but merely to inform anyone planning to go, to prevent un-necessary journeys and give them the chance to re-plan their August Bank Holiday weekend!

Cheers, Lucy Burrow

I'm sure this is tough for all concerned. Maybe something good will come out of it down the road.

Lucy - this is rotten news, and very sad for the organisers and punters.

I've never made it to the Wadebridge/ Cornwall Festival, but I know that some people love it so much that they will go there straight after Whitby...

Really sorry to hear it - I used to love going to Wadebridge. I wonder if the "significant shortfall" is a permanent state of affairs or if it's just some glitch that happened this year. Let us know if you hear anything, Lucy (and thanks for the heads-up, even if it is sad news).

But I will have a very mild go at the organisers for not updating the web-site. People may still be making plans on the basis of the site. I have sent an e-mail just in case it's slipped their memory at this gut-wrenching time. All that work and emotional input down the pan. They have my commiserations.

That's a great shame! I hope they sort things out for next year.
The main organisers this year are good friends and I was hoping it would be a roaring success - I'm sure it's not their fault!

Yes of course. The various prices/applications/forms have already been disabled/removed and official display will take effect (already written) as soon as all artists and current sponsors have been notified and any appropriate monies refunded.

I understand that efforts are being made in Wadebridge to salvage the festival this year in some form. I absolutely can say no more (mainly because I don't know much) but watch this space and don't completely give up just yet!

At nearly thirty miles I'm a bit remote from Wadebridge, though I do know some good folkies there and I know they want to keep the thing alive. Like I said, if I get to know any more I'll post it, though countless others around here probably have their fingers on the pulse far better than I do.

I have heard that several of the locals are planning to be going to the usual venues and making music / singing regardless of the fact that the committee have had to pull the plug. Well done them for their tenacity. Normally I would be there to support them, but, as my other half was going to be elsewhere when I was at Wadebridge, I am going to take the opportunity to spend some time with him. We have a wedding on the Saturday and then are heading off with the engine in the general direction of Honiton Hill Rally, we will be taking instruments with us, so if you are there, come and join us! Sorry Cats, wont make the cream tea!
Cheers, Lucy
