21 Jun 07 - 12:51 PM (#2083206) Subject: RE: New member - wolfy From: George Papavgeris Welcome, wolfy! It gets a bit ruff here sometimes, but most people's bark is worse than their bite. You'll find that sometimes it's better to paws before responding to a post. Oh, and posts here are not for doing your business against them. Though sometimes I wonder... Or is it "wolfy" as in "power to the people"? (sorry, UK in-joke) |

21 Jun 07 - 08:30 PM (#2083591) Subject: RE: New member - wolfy From: Azizi "Or is it "wolfy" as in "power to the people"? (sorry, UK in-joke)"-George Papavgeris Hey, George, I'm trying to get the in-joke. Are you refering to Paul Wolfowitz? But then again in order to be an "in joke", there have to be people who are "out of the loop". Okay. Alright. I guess if you UKers wanna have your fun and leave us UnitedStaters out-not to mention leaving out all the other folks who post or lurk here from elsewhere- it's your perogative {as Bobby Brown used to sing}*. But, tell me. Am I close to guessing what that in-joke is about? * How's that for an "in" reference? ** Sorry for that bit of off topic conversation, wolfy. Greetings to you from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Share, learn, and enjoy! Ms. Azizi [I only added the "Ms" since I've found out that some people here think that I'm of the opposite persuasion, but I'm not] :o} |
21 Jun 07 - 08:43 PM (#2083599) Subject: RE: New member - wolfy From: George Papavgeris Sorry, Azizi - you see, there was a seventies sitcom on TV (title escapes me), whose "hero" was a self-styled "urban guerilla" (in fact he was just a lazy lad using this ruse to impress girls). His name was Wilf something, and gis girlfriend's mother always called him "Wolfy" by mistake. The opening title sequence had him standing in a deserted street corner, shouting "power to the people" at nobody. Less interesting tham your version, I am afraid! |
22 Jun 07 - 12:08 AM (#2083698) Subject: RE: New member - wolfy From: Azizi Thanks, George, for cluing me in. I just love being in the know! I never cease to be amazed at what can be learned on Mudcat! And in that fine tradition, here's a link that gives some background about a point mentioned in your explanation of that in-joke: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_to_the_people_(slogan) Here's a sentence from that small paragraph- "The 1970s television series Citizen Smith had the title character use the slogan in the title sequence." This sounds like it may be the tv show you were thinking of... ** Btw, Hi, again, new member wolfy! |

Oliver Cromwell was the alpha male .....Oh and talking of Oliver Cromwell... what's all this crap about global warming and more severe weather? What about the Great Storm winds in the early 1700s that took Cromwell's head off the pike that Charlie stuck it on? Hey where were all the cars pumping out CO2 then???? Come on Tony tell me another lie.. |
25 Jun 07 - 06:35 PM (#2086895) Subject: RE: New member - wolfy From: Herga Kitty Not Robert Lindsay, then - he was Wolfie of the Tooting Popular Front(and Citizen Smith was by John Sullivan who went on to write Only Fools and Horses). Welcome, Wolfy, to the mad world of Mudcat! Kitty |
