'Once': The Busker Film of Films

"Once" -- a busker romance. A nice film, no great pretence -- but if I was 20 years old, this would be the film that would send me out onto the streets with a guitar. Everything about it is worth your while. I assume it is probably still playing in Dublin where it is set.

yours,

Peter T.

I would like to see it. I can't sit through many love stories, but I will take your word for it that this film rises well above the level, which would make me cringe. I hope it comes round.
I have often thought that a really great film could be made about busking, but it is most unlikely that there would be much interest in making it. It is even more unlikely that anyone would be bothered to find out enough about it to make it believable. That is sad, because there have been some wonderful performers out there...

"Once" has been throught the Cinemas here in Dublin a few months ago. I don't think its showing anywhere here at the moment.

It's recently been released in the States and appears to be doing quite well on a limited release. It stars Geln Hansard of 'The Frames' and his relationship with an Eastern European girl played by Irena Irglova. I thought it was a lovely film in a low key sort of way.

Glen Hansard played the part of Outspan, lead guitarist of "The Commitments".

this thread made me reflect, you see

Both my wives saw me busking as did my girlfriends.

So maybe 'Twice' would be more appropriate in my case

In case anyone is interested, I'll be perfroming tonight at the Barton Charity gig then tomorrow at the Ongar railway.

Chris Flegg will be there also this evening.

I would have thought lots of Mudcatters would roll out to see it (not that it is an epic or anything, just a nice film). All about writing your own songs on a bashed up guitar, meeting a girl who plays the piano, wandering the streets, a natural movie about being a folkie.

yours,

Peter T.

Here's the official website. Looks interesting.

The trouble is, in order to "roll out to see it" it's got to be there to go and see. They've got six screens in our local cinema, and not a film I'd be likely to consider going to see. And I love going to the cinema.

I've been waiting to see Once, since I've heard and watched reviews starting a month or more ago.
Don't know if it has gotten to Montana yet.
