Aylesford 'Day of Dance'

The drinking will start today for the Aylesford day of dance tomorrow - several morris sides congregating on this tiny picturesque village just outside Maidstone (follow the signposts) for a day of mayhem, and two sinagrounds officially tomorrow with Travelling Folk.

Very likely the singing will start tonight too.

Melodeonboy and the Barden of England, will we see you? All welcome...

It would be nice to have a good turnout (maybe despite the weather) as KevintheClogs has been working his socks off for months trying to get it organised (organised - morris - does not compute) and wants everyone to admire his recent Green Man tattoo as well.

Aylesford is quite small. Is the whole "day of dance" going to be there?

What time is sticks/hankies up?

I might be allowed a lunch time pass ;-)

Thanks for asking, Richard. I'm already playing at Dickens World in the morning and Whitstable in the evening, but if there's a little window of opportunity in between, I may make a cameo appearance! Will the singaround be going on all afternoon?

Kick off tomorrow about 10 am (yecch!) GMT (Gundulf Morris Time)

Yes, it's all in tiny Aylesford unless the mighty Medway has other plans.

Stage in the recreation ground, village Club, Little Gem, Chequers, and the other pub the name of which escapes me, and Ceilidh and show in evening somewhere.... Even a mass lepp planned for the little bridge over the Medway in the middle (hope all those syncronised feet don't shake it down).

Is this still the home of Hartley Morris, with whome I have had a couple of great evenings and an even greater headache the day after?

Well, what a mass of Morris? The bridge was still intact afterwards. Arrived at Chequers to find several of the usual subjects in the singaround. Melodeonboy did make a cameo appearance, but not too many others arrived to fill the vacated chairs, so we practiced a few songs whilst drinking up and left at about 4.30. No doupt all saving themselves for tomorrow.

I was playing at 'La Pasta' in Maidstone last night, Dickens World today and will be at Dickens World tomorrow, so have been unable to attend. Hope it goes well though.

Sorry couldn't get there - Maidstone gridlocked and it was peeing with rain. Took me an hour to get back from Buckland Hill/St Peter's street to Cranbrook... rubbish.

I hope it was a good day despite weather.

Er--- it was wet (inside and out).

The Scouts' marquee blew away this morning - but there was some good harmony in the Chequers at about midnight...

Well folks - it's arrived, happened and then it was over (boohoo!!).

The Aylesford Village Festival 2007 was a smash!!! A very big thank you to all who turned up to run/take part in the two "official" sinaground sessions in the Chequers. Didn't get to the afternoon one, as I was rushing around like a maniac making sure that the six morris sides were all ok!! The evening sessions on Frisday and Saturday were really good - some great songs and tunes plus some great harmonising.

All that was planned for the event, happened. Bishop Gundulfs Morris set a new world record for the number of long swords that can be put into a lock - 23!! (well done Big Dick and the rest of the side). My mate Rob proved that he is crazy by fire juggling and spitting (fire that is) throughout the weekend. Flora's ceilidh went well.

Much drinking and merriment over two long days!!

A big thank you to any of you who cam along to participate or just to support our hard efforts.

The event wil run again, next year on the same weekend - so put it in your diary NOW, so that you can't tell me that you are double booked when I bump into at the festivals this year. If you want to see what we arranged for the day, you can look at www.aylesfordvillagefestival.co.uk No doubt, there will be photos on the Gundulfs web site too in the near future - www.bishopgundulfs.co.uk.

So, having just unpacked the car and typed this - I'm going to bed for some rest!!!!

Many, many thanks to you all.

Kevin Tudor
Joint organiser of Aylesford Village Festival
and Steward for Bishop Gundulfs Morris

sleeeeeeppppppppppp!!!
