For lovers of virtuoso Scottish fiddling -

Pete Clark will be sojourning with us and gigging in SW VA and TN between Common Ground and Swannanoa Celtic Week. Here are the chances to hear him:

12th July - Acoustic Coffee House, Johnson City TN (sponsored by ETSU)

14th July - Tales of the Lonesome Pine bookstore (house concert), Big Stone Gap, VA

If you are anywhere near you shoudn't miss one of these!

Sounds great-- send him up to Maine when you're done with him! George is here- he and Fred are quaffing Guiness at the Anchor Inn even as we speak. Would be fun to have you all here...

Best-- Julia

Well, they're back from the pub and now we are drinking Cutty Sark.. Fred is playing the didgereedoo (How DO you spell that?!)
Now he is playing Ave Maria on the guitar (cause we have to play it at a wedding) PLEASE come save me!

WE need a decent fiddler and a good sing song...
chyahz the noo- Julia

BTW for those who do NOT know, Pete is first class and not to be missed

pfoof

George has just revealed that his real purpose in being in the U.S. is to spy on Pete. Top security etc. He says to say "all the best!" I think it's a code...

Ah! The old code!

I'm just hoping Pete didn't get caught up in the events at Glasgow airport on his way over.

Anyway - back to the point of this post (and back to the top)!

Pete (as many of you will know) is among the finest and most knowledgeable fiddlers on the scene right now. This week he is teaching at Common Ground on the Hill in Maryland and the week after next he is on the staff at Swannanoa Gathering Celtic Week in N Carolina. In between he is staying with us in SW VA and playing the two gigs I mentioned in the first post. Pete's particular specialization is the music of Niel Gow and his contemporaries, but he is also a fine composer of original tunes.

He is well worth the effort of going to see!

If Pete is interested in Appalachian fiddling, there are two fine fiddler's conventions: Tazewell, VA on Sat the 14 (not too far from Big Stone Gap) and in Sparta, NC on Friday and Saturday the 20th and 21st of July. We will be in Sparta if the Good Lord is willing and the creeks don't rise.

These events are an awful lot of fun and the music is ALWAYS good.

Many thanks for that info, guest. I know that Pete is interested in old-time fiddling (I seem to recall he attended a summer school in TN some years ago) and sometimes includes a few old-time tunes in his concert sets.
