Lyr Req: Charlie's Song (The Halliard recording)

I'd like to get the text of this song. The recording I'm listening to is te one by The Halliard (Jolly Machine). This is the chorus (if I get the words right):

Charlie loves a good ale and wine
Charlie loves a good brandy
And Charlie loves the jolly machine
That'll make his pot so handy

Thanks. R

Thank you, but I think the songs in that thread are older than this one, that seems a later adaptation with a text about the industrial revolution. R

Charlie is the potters friend,
no one could be fonder'
charlie loves the"golden goose",
which may turn out a gander,

Spattlers love to crush their class,
spattlers false and silly,
spattlers love to sell their homes,
for bastille walls and skilly,

He'll send you to the workhouse door,
with your wife, your son and daughter,
so lift your caps and give three cheers,
here's to the Iron Potter.

Gerry

BTW don't ask me what it means tho

Gerry, where'd you get your version - is it your transcription of The Halliard recording, or what?
A source, a source, ya gotta have a source...

I copied it word for word from a 1978 book published by Micheal Raven entitled "Reynardine"

Thank you very much, Banjo-Flower. The notes on the cd booklet say that "spattlers" is a term for machine operators, and that they were regarded as blacklegs. R
