11 Jul 07 - 06:05 PM (#2100268) Subject: Jim Page in Liverpool - 23rd July From: GUEST,Chris B (Born Again Scouser) Hope you don't mind the blatant plug but the brilliant US singer-songwriter Jim Page is playing in Liverpool on Monday July 23rd. I got fed up waiting for someone to arrange a gig for Jim in my town so I did it myself! Jim has been on the scene for more than thirty-five years and his reputation continues to grow. He has shared the stage with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, Dan Bern, Michelle Shocked, Leftover Salmon, Mickey Hart, J.J. Cale, Robert Hunter, Chuck Brodsky, and John Hammond. His songs have been performed by Christy Moore, Michael Hedges, John Trudell, The Doobie Brothers, Joanne Rand, Casey Neill, and (yes) David Soul. "In the tradition of Woody and Dylan, he cuts right to the heart with music you actually enjoy listening to. I'm a longtime admirer." - Bonnie Raitt "Every now and again I encounter a singer who gives me a glimmer of hope. Jim Page carries the light." - Christy Moore Jim will be appearing at the View Two Gallery, 23 Matthew Street, Liverpool (just across the road from the famous Cavern club) on the 23rd July. Doors will open at 8.00 pm. Another legendary songwriter, Liverpool's own Bruce Scott (who wrote, among many other songs, 'The People's Own M.P, covered by Christy Moore), will open the evening. Tickets are £7.00 at the door, or you can PM me at CCBJEBBRB@aol.com. Details of the venue can also be found at: http://www.viewtwogallery.co.uk/ Jim has a myspace site where he advertises his gigs so you can also go there: http://www.myspace.com/seattlejimpage Anyone who has seen or heard Jim will understand why he is so highly regarded. This promises to be a great gig. I'm not trying to make any money here - I just want to make this happen. See you there! Chris |

Especially This Land (a spoof) and Over My Dead Body. I'll try and get there for the gig. Pity the href="http://www.viewtwogallery.co.uk">venue and the performer aren't listing your gig. Be interesting to hear which Jim Page song Christy Moorre covers. Good Luck Simon |

13 Jul 07 - 04:45 PM (#2101928) Subject: RE: Jim Page in Liverpool - 23rd July From: GUEST,Chris B (Born Again Scouser) Thanks for that, Simon. Jim's touring so I don't know if he's got much chance to update his site. The guys at the gallery have the details but they are part-time. PM me and I'll forward you a press release. Cheers, Chris PS It's 'Hiroshima Nagasaki Russian Roulette' and 'Landlord'. There may be others but I stopped buying Christy's records when I started hearing more synth than guitar. |

17 Jul 07 - 07:52 PM (#2105483) Subject: RE: Jim Page in Liverpool - 23rd July From: Declan Christy started recording Jim Page songs with Moving Hearts in the late 70s. The first Moving Hearts album had Hiroshima Nagasaki and Landlord. Jim was living ing Dublin at the time and I remember his reaction the first time he heard Moving Hearts' version of Hiroshima Nagasaki Russian Roulette. He was blown away by it. If you've ever heard the track you'll understand why. I hope Jim's gig goes wel for you next week. I've been a big fan since I heard him first at Ballisodare Festival around 1979 and on many occasions in The Meeting Place in Dublin. |

Simon, the gig is now on both Jim's and the Venue's websites as well as on Tradmusic.com Quote from a message I received from Jim last night: 'I am really looking forward to this. I like Liverpool a lot, it has a special place in my memories.' The bar's open till midnight. Jim will play till around 11 and then be there to sell CDs, chat and generally hang out. Hope to see you. |

08 Aug 07 - 02:38 PM (#2121874) Subject: RE: Jim Page in Liverpool - 23rd July From: GUEST,Chris B (Born Again Scouser) Hello everyone. Just thought I'd let you know how Jim Page's gig in Liverpool went. It was a terrific success and everyone (including Jim) had a great time. We could have used maybe a few more people in the audience but never mind. I didn't quite cover my costs but my wife and I just looked at it as a night out - and a bloody good one. Jim was on great form. He really is an extraordinary performer. His honesty, generosity and passion are really something to be experienced. Very few solo performers come close. Christy Mooore, Dick Gaughan, the late Steve Goodman - the list is a short one. My only gripe was the door was two floors down so after all that organising I missed most of the first half! After that I thought 'sod it' and closed the door and went upstairs to listen. Too many highlights to list - 'Trail of Tears', 'Anna Mae', 'Mr Ondo', 'Rachel Corrie', 'Everything is Round', and finishing off with 'Lightnin' Hopkins'. The guy is an absolute gent as well, driving up from Trowbridge on Monday and going back to the South Coast the next day for what I have to say was a very reasonable fee - which I had to persuade him to accept. My seven-year-old daughter loved him as well and presented him with a little glass flower she had made at her playgroup which Jim tells me made it all the way back to Seattle with him. (She also invited one of her friends round to look at 'The American', which I thought he handled very gracefully. My mate Bruce Scott opened up, and did a wonderful set of traditional and original songs drawn from his Liverpool and Irish roots. Jim was blown away by him and they ended up trading CDs and email addresses. It's great to be able to put artists together that way and see them click like that. It doesn't always happen. One of my friends who was there said that the great thing about the evening was having two one-off talents performing together on the same bill. The venue was perfect - it's a beautiful little art gallery three floors above Matthew Street in the heart of Liverpool, bang opposite the site of the original Cavern Club. Ken Martin, who owns the gallery, is an architect whose twin passions seem to be art and music. He and his staff were brilliant and he brought along a lot of his own friends to swell the numbers, including the great Liverpool screenwriter Jimmy McGovern. I'm hoping to promote some more gigs there in the near future and any acoustic or traditional artists who would like to play in Liverpool in an intimate setting surrounded by excellent artworks are very welcome to PM me. Maybe we can help each other out. My address is on the first post of this thread. I'm also hoping to get Jim back in the near future - the Liverpool Irish Festival is taking place at the end of October and Jim may be in Ireland at the time - it's only a short hop to Liverpool. So if you missed him this time you may get another chance before too long. Again, if you'd like to be kept informed, let me know. Before you ask, no, I'm not making any money out of this - I'm just happy to be able to make it happen. If I can make it pay for itself, fine. But now I've got the bug anything could happen. All the best, Chris |

I forgot to mention Patrick Morrison, who did a great job on the sound. Always the way, though - you never notice the sound guy unless something goes wrong. It didn't. |
