This is the first time today that Mudcat has actually loaded up on my computer.
No idea what has been going on.
Quack!

Well when I looked in posts since last visit, Guest Bill had posted may many times, so I assume he crashed the Cat.
Giok

I did the same thing, and managed to count 141 posts called 'Microsoft' by GUEST, Bill, all posted between 1.54am and 1.59am. Soon after the 'cat came back, they were gone.

It seems pretty obvious that they shut it down for a while to deal with a spam attack.

Billybob would never do such a thing, being a musio himself.

I'm submitting a Guest bill to Congress, banning internet-armed Guests.

Please vote for the Guest Bill when it comes up, eveyone.

We should make sure Guest Bill gets his guest bill and pays it in full. Plus room service.

Time to stop guests with name as well now, me thinks.

Everybody should be a member and that will hopefully stop this crap.

I had a call from Mike Moore. He suspects an inside job this time. Most likely by someone whose agaenda it is to discredit guest posting and have the Café adopt member only posting.

Hmmmm... Villan... likely sounding name for a witch hunt. Where were you between 01:54h and 01:59h? And, can you support that?

Well I dropped membership for reasons of my own, but posting as a guest, I'd be perfectly happy if guest posts were not automatically posted, but moderated before they appear. If this means a long delay (depending on willingness of moderators), so be it. That might mean that guests only post if they really need to.

Another alternatives is the scrambled characters box used by many open- posting forums and download pages- you know, the box that says "type the characters displayed" and shows half a dozen randomised letters and numbers, distorted so that they aren't machine readable.

And, sometimes, not readable me me either. I recently tried to submit an advertisement to an online "stuff for sale" site and gave up after a dozen failed attempts to type the characters displayed.

Now, given the fact that my ad DID appear, despite never getting the characters correct may mean it was set up that way... ???

I have trouble interpreting some of those characters also - they get a little too artistic.

Sometimes it's hard to determine if they should be capital letters or not.
Things like the Capital I or lower case l or the number 1 get me.
