12 Jul 07 - 11:40 AM (#2100712) Subject: RE: Guest Bill From: JennyO I did the same thing, and managed to count 141 posts called 'Microsoft' by GUEST, Bill, all posted between 1.54am and 1.59am. Soon after the 'cat came back, they were gone. It seems pretty obvious that they shut it down for a while to deal with a spam attack. |

12 Jul 07 - 03:28 PM (#2100927) Subject: RE: Guest Bill From: gnu I had a call from Mike Moore. He suspects an inside job this time. Most likely by someone whose agaenda it is to discredit guest posting and have the Café adopt member only posting. Hmmmm... Villan... likely sounding name for a witch hunt. Where were you between 01:54h and 01:59h? And, can you support that? |

13 Jul 07 - 05:25 AM (#2101404) Subject: RE: Guest Bill From: GUEST,Paul Burke Well I dropped membership for reasons of my own, but posting as a guest, I'd be perfectly happy if guest posts were not automatically posted, but moderated before they appear. If this means a long delay (depending on willingness of moderators), so be it. That might mean that guests only post if they really need to. Another alternatives is the scrambled characters box used by many open- posting forums and download pages- you know, the box that says "type the characters displayed" and shows half a dozen randomised letters and numbers, distorted so that they aren't machine readable. |

13 Jul 07 - 05:46 AM (#2101413) Subject: RE: Guest Bill From: gnu And, sometimes, not readable me me either. I recently tried to submit an advertisement to an online "stuff for sale" site and gave up after a dozen failed attempts to type the characters displayed. Now, given the fact that my ad DID appear, despite never getting the characters correct may mean it was set up that way... ??? |
