BS: Sleep over in Congress

In the all night debate in Congress over the Iraq war many folding beds were delivered to the Capitol building. Only one was used since most representativeswent home for a snooae before coming bact at the crack of dawn. Hillary was talking at 3 AM is is a bit cranky today.

One Congressman from North Carolina let slip the comment "George W Bush is a LIAR!"

well he was forced to apologize and take it back or be sensured this morning - WHICH HE DID in the most amusing fashion. On C Span he said "there are rules and protocols that prevent members from call ing resident a LIAR even if the PResident IS A LIAR!"

He went on for a half hour explaing how calling the President a liar EVEN IF IT IS THE TRUTH is simply not done on the floor of Congress.
It was pointed out that that Cheney need not aplogize for telling a Senator to go fuck himself on the floor of Congress but to call the PResident a LIAR is forbidden.

'They' are calling this session of Congress the Twillight Zone and a Hollywood production.

Stay tuned... they are about to vote on the Levin ammendment to get our troops out of Iraq.

Couldn't find this on the C-Span website, Donuel, even under "all recent programs". More info for reference, please?

52 to 47 votes failed to pass the ammendment. 60 were needed to end the filibuster.

A cloture vote failed to stop the advance the Levin Reed Amendment.

HR 2669

Republican Senators are calling this vote an indiginity and a collosal waste of time since the President will just veto the bill.

Reminds me of a tale about Bob Hope. He was in a smallish town doing some stage/radio shows. He was asked how he liked the hotel he was in. He replied, "The room's so small even the rats are stoop-shouldered." The Hotel threatened to sue if he didn't retract the statement. So, next day he returned to the radio station and said, "I want to apologize for my remark yesterday where I said "The room is so small that even the rats are stoop-shouldered. The rats AREN'T stoop-shouldered!"

Donuel:

We found this story rather interesting since both senators from North Carolina are republicans. Which one called Bush a liar? Since one of them is a woman (Elizabeth Dole) and you said "he", we must assume it's the other one, Richard Burr. We couldn't find that specific story on the internet. Searching on "George W. Bush is a liar" returned so many hits we couldn't go through them all!!!

"Demo withdraws charge that Bush lied about war after Rep. Cannon objects
By Thomas Burr

Rep. Chris Cannon - who once called President Clinton a "perjurer" - forced a Democrat on Tuesday to withdraw his remark that President Bush lied to Congress and the American people.
During a congressional hearing last week, Cannon, R-Utah, objected to the statement by Rep. Mel Watt, D-N.C., charging that Bush lied to get the country into the war in Iraq.
House rules preclude a member from leveling "personally offensive" remarks against the president during hearings or on the House floor, including calling the president a liar or a hypocrite or making accusations of sexual misconduct.

T'was a Democrat from N.C. Not a senator, but a member of the house of reps.

Bob Dole resigned from congress to run for president in 2000 but he lost out to you know who. Since he was then unemployed, he put his wife to work as senator from North Carolina.
