I chanced upon this site E-Chords.com - Slim Dusty Guitar Tabs and there are a dozen of his songs there (with chords that may or may not be accurate to greater or lesser degrees). Anyway, would it be a reasonable consideration to have a thread of some sort that keeps chance finds like this? Slim Dusty - A Pub With No Beer Slim Dusty - Dead On Time Slim Dusty - G'day g'day Slim Dusty - Gum Trees By The Roadway Slim Dusty - I Love To Have A Beer With Duncan Slim Dusty - Indian Pacific Slim Dusty - Lights On The Hill Slim Dusty - Plains of Peppimenarti Slim Dusty - Ringer From the Top End Slim Dusty - Rusty It's Goodbye Slim Dusty - Saddle Boy Slim Dusty - The Biggest Disappointment Slim Dusty - Three Rivers Hotel Slim Dusty - Walk A Country Mile Slim Dusty - When the Rain Tumbles Down in July Slim Dusty - Where Country is http://www.e-chords.com/tabs.asp?idartist=6375 |

20 Jul 07 - 09:49 PM (#2107967) Subject: RE: Tune Add: Slim Dusty From: Bob Bolton G'day Peace, It's worth keeping in mind that a popular singer, as Slim was, inevitably has other people's songs "credited" to him. Two obvious examples in your list are: The Pub With No Beer: © Gordon Parsons (even if he did pinch most of the words from Paddy Sheehan's 1941 poem A Pub Without Beer ... and the tune from the first part of Stephen Foster's Beautiful Dreamer!) Gum Trees By The Roadway was the title of an earlier popular Australian song ... (~)'20/'30s. I'm not sure if Slim's rendition is his own - or a case of him reviving an old favourite. Regards, Bob |
20 Jul 07 - 11:59 PM (#2108005) Subject: RE: Tune Add: Slim Dusty From: Peace Yeah. Right to that, Bob. It's much the same when we search for North American songwriters. However, would you see any percentage to logging specifically Aussie songs on a thread? On the rare occasion when someone has requested a song by an Ozite, often as not it's not until YOU come along that we can get anything definitive about the song or sometimes the performer/writer. |
21 Jul 07 - 04:08 AM (#2108058) Subject: RE: Tune Add: Slim Dusty From: Bob Bolton G'day Peace, You are right - with a performer of (say) Slim's stature, a repertoire builds up which is identified by his/her fans as a body of "his/her songs". A thread dediciated to any performer who has a large following will help those who come here to find lyrics / tunes / chords / history / translations?... even if those with a wider view see all sorts of other connections - even "ownerships". If the thread works ... what other justifications does it need? Regards, Bob |
